Q: What causes isolated systolic (top number) hypertension?
A: The cause of most hypertension is not known. When a cause is identifiable, it is known as secondary hypertension. Isolated systolic hypertension is the most common type of hypertension in older people. Genetics, life style, and just getting older are factors. Blood vessels, like joints, tend to get stiffer as we age.
I’m going try a piece of dark chocolate a day to see if my blood pressure goes down.I’ve so many studies that this will widen the vessels. So I’m going to give it a try .
at least once or twice a day (I do take a few readings during the day) I will have a BP reading in the low-mid 120s over low-mid 60s and a pulse in the 60s. Would that be considered normal enough at my age (68)?
That’s a great reading. Keep up the good work. Research indicates hypertension can be prevented and/or reversed with lifestyle changes.
I am pleased to reprot that since using Levodyn, my blood pressure has lowered to the good range. This is the only thing that I have done differently recently so the credit is due to this natural product. My doctor has noticed the improvement after I told him about taking this supplement, but he didn’t seem to want to discuss this.
I think the cause of most hypertension is actually known. It’s easy to blame it on genetics, but keep in mind it’s just a predisposition and not etched in stone. Per Dean Ornish MD, we have certain genes that predispose us to certain conditions but certain diet and lifestyle changes have been proven to turn off those genes. Supposedly the cause of hypertension is atherosclerosis which relates to endothelial dysfunction. Over time the walls of the arteries becomes damaged via plaque which causes a reduction in nitric oxide production. Nitric oxide is the most powerful vasodliator in the body. If we restore our endothelial function we eliminate cardivascular conditions such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure. 99% of our genes are designed to keep us healthy, we just never let them do their job.
