Q: What is the relationship of heart rate and BP? I’m a 62 year old man, my BP is 135/65, and my heart rate is 50. I’ve just stopped my BP meds (diovan/hct) because of extreme light headedness/dizziness.
A: The heart pumps to create enough blood pressure to deliver blood and oxygen to all parts of the body. How fast your heart has to pump depends on what you are doing. If you are getting light headed and dizzy it may be that your pressure has been lowered too much by your medication. Discuss what is happening with your doctor. Take your blood pressure and pulse measurements in with you on your visit.
