Q: Is it true that the antidepressant Effexor ER raises one’s blood
pressure more than most antidepressants?
A: Effexor can cause an increase in blood pressure but there are other types of antidepressants that have a worse reputation for increasing blood pressure. People taking any antidepressant should have their blood pressure monitored by their doctor.
what other antidepressant can cause trouble
Lexapro sent me to the E.R with a reading of 200/120 and I was put on zoloft which hasn’t caused any problems YET…
Have taken Effexor XR for 3 years now; it’s sort of a trade-off, really. If the antidepressant lowers the stress levels in your body, your BP may drop a little; therefore, I haven’t seen much change. Overall, the antidepressant is well worth any increase in BP dosage, etc., if it makes the person feel “whole” again!
