Q: Why is my bp so high (190/89) when my med colodine was lowered from 0.03-0.02 and metropolol and benicar was added. Will it take time for my body to react?
A: I believe you meant Clonidine, not colodine. One of the side effects of sudden stopping Clonidine is very high blood pressure. Your doctor is slowly lowering your dose of Clonidine and starting different blood pressure medicines, metropolol and benicar. This is important to keep your blood pressure from getting dangerously high while your body adjusts to the changes.
Why do doctors even prescribe clonidine when it’s so dangerous? There are much better, more benign BP-lowering meds.
I agree. It should be outlawed. Two many complications when trying to discontinue or change to something that doesn’t cause one to become so lethargic. Blood pressure becomes to dangerously high when trying to wean off. Most advice is to consult with your doctor. Well, I have and it hasn’t worked. At least not in the last two months.
I have yet to hear from someone that has sucessfully weaned off of clonidine.
