Q: I am on Exforge. Does it cause me to put weight on? If so, can I change it?
A: Exforge is a combination of two types of blood pressure medicine, a calcium channel blocker and an angiotensin II antagonist. It is not known to cause weight gain. If you don’t like the way a prescription drug makes you feel, you should talk to your doctor. Many different types of drugs are available to treat high blood pressure and other medical problems. Your doctor realizes you are more likely to take your medicine if it doesn’t cause problems.
There are only about a hundred side effects to this drug. And Doctors continue to make people pay big money to ingest it and have even more problems. Below are some of the known side effects. Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness); change in the amount of urine produced; chest pain; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; numbness and tingling of an arm or leg; severe or persistent dizziness; severe or persistent muscle pain or aches; shortness of breath; sudden, severe headache or vomiting; sudden, unexplained weight gain; sudden vision changes; swelling of the feet, ankles, or hands; yellowing of the eyes or skin.
I Certainly Agree. Of all the Hypertensives, they all due some harm.
Seeing a standard western doctor like Dr. Rowena is the worst thing you can do if you have high blood pressure. She’ll just dump you on pills the rest of you life.
I was dumped on drugs for high blood pressure and they made me sick as a dog. I found out there are many natural ways to lower you blood pressure. Just dumping someone on pills doesn’t get at the root cause of high blood pressure!
I have been diagnosed with having “essential hypertension”. I too feel that doctors just push pills . I hate the side effects of meds. What do you suggest?
What are some natural ways to reduce high blood pressure? I was on exforge and gained weight and did not feel well. Please respond with suggestions.
So far (7 years) I have taken 8 different blood-pressure meds. Each one had a difficult side effect that made me hate to take them: dry persistent cough, sensitivity to sun, itching, hives, etc. Now I am on Nifedipine, and all that happens is swollen ankles. If I were younger it would be a problem, but at 78, it is the best drug for me so far.
Not make you gain weight? Well it would be the first calcium channel blocker that didn’t! They also can cause edema – you know, one of the things it’s supposed to fix. I know, I took them for 15 years, and after retiring, I don’t have the stress of job pressures and I’m managing my BP with diet, weight control and exercise. But if my BP gets out of control, I would opt back on. If health is good overall and a stroke happens, then I’d probably survive but maybe have irreversible damage or find myself in a vegetative state.
My elderly father was in Florida on vacation back in February. Mid week he wasn’t feeling well & was rushed to the ER. His Blood Pressure, which he had been treating naturally through diet, exercise, garlic, apple cidar vinegar & Resperate, had risen to 200+/110!!! Although he is against taking prescriptive medicine, what was he to do?? They gave him 25mg of diovan right then & there and gave him a prescription for the remainder of the week he was there. They advised him to see his doctor when he returned back home. He did. They upped his dose to 50 mg. The good thing is that it quickly controlled his high BP. The bad things are the side effects. This was all back in February. 2 months later and he has been able to cut back his presciptive medication until his doctor sees his BP is under control again. He admitted that he did fall from his regime. He’s back on track now with his natural ways & Resperate, but it’ll take time before his doctor will allow him to stop taking his meds all together.
Do I feel doctors are pill pushers? Personally, yes, I do. In some cases however, it’s necessary. Not everyone is disciplined enough to control their BP on their own & you can’t change the fact that all these pills have side effects.
Lisinopril and amlodipine cause upper back pain. I have difficulty sleeping. Which drug for high blood pressure has the least side effects?
I have been on 20mg of Exforge for about three months. Three weeks ago I loss hearing in my left ear. I have been on Prednisone, Shot of Kenalog 40MG to the ear. This has not helped.
I read that Exforge has a side effect Ear & Labyrith disorders.
Exforge did not work for me and caused me to gain weight. were you short of breath? Did your stomach swell on Exforge? How is your hearing, will you gain it back? I hope you feel better!
Thankfully I have been able to get my stubborn high BP back in line and have not had many noticeable problems on this drug. However, I think it has contributed to my weight gain (around my belly), though I have read repeatedly that this does not happen. I really watch what I eat (vegetarian who limits carbs). I also exercise regularly. It just seems like my midsection has grown and I can’t find any other reason.
I have been taking Exforge for a couple of years—it controlled my BP well and I thought I wasn’t having any side effects. I could not afford to go to the doctor for a new prescription + the cost of the meds, so I quit taking it a couple of weeks ago—it seems like I am losing a little weight. I was also having trouble with weight gain around my middle–and today I noticed that it is starting to change—I suspect it must’ve had to do with the Exforge—I had just assumed it was symptoms of menopause.
