Q: I’ve heard about a pressure point on the body that when pressure is applied you can substantially lower your blood pressure immediately. Can you please comment on this.
Q: Applying pressure to the area of the carotid artery in the neck will slow the heart and lower blood pressure. If too much pressure is applied, fainting will occur. Sometimes doctors use gentle carotid massage to slow a fast heart rate. Martial arts experts use this knowledge to disable opponents with a neck strike.
Accupuncturists have used “pressure” areas for centuries to help reduce blood pressure. There is also a chiropractic adjustment of the cervical spine, more specifically the atlas, which can reduce blood pressure for those with that very specific misalingment and nerve impingement in the neck. Most general chiropractors, however, do not have the training or equipment to determine whether you qualify for this treatment, nor do they have the adjusting table necessary. Special training and equipment is required. See, http://www.webmd.com/hypertension-high-blood-pressure/news/20070316/chiropractic-cuts-blood-pressure.
All the best!!
Applying pressure to the carotid artery may also dislodge plaque and lead to a stoke. My understanding is that doctors are reluctant to manipulate the carotid artery for this reason. This proceedure sounds dangerous.
A more appropriate answer that has longer lasting effect is an accupuncture point at the top of each ear which dramatically brings down blood pressure immediately. On repeated treatments it has long lasting effects. Would be nice if Roweena knew more about other preventative and protocols other than what she was taught in medical school. Get someone else Resperate. Her answers are pat and often useless for those looking for alternative ideas
Thank you very much Arnie! I just press the top of my ears with my fingers for like 30 seconds and it worked! my blood pressure was 133/93 and rigth after I did it was 122/86! I couldn’t belive my eyes! By the way (before) I also try for couple minutes pressing gently my carotid arteri with no results. Thanks again Arnie.
I just tried it also and it worked. Do you know how often to repeat doing it for long lasting effects?
I agree wholeheartedly, Arnie, and have called for Resperate to replace Dr. Rowena with a physician more familiar with integrative therapies and wellness care, including natural therapies!
anything risky may not be recommended.
I was interested in the information regarding controlling a rapid heart beat. Mine is usually high. In the 90s or even over 100. When my blood pressure is high the heart beat is lower and on the reverse side when the blood pressure is normal the heart beat is higher. My doctor does not comment on these aspects of my health when asked. I just have a rapid heart beat is the diagnosis. I take 25g of a diuretic.
Maybe the diuretic is causing your elevated-heart rate.
John………….I know every time I was prescribed a diuretic my heart would race, skip, & bang like it wanted to come out of my chest! Needless to say, I’m not prescribed these anymore. But, have another problem that has developed. Called Atrial Fibrillation. A whole “new animal”, believe me!!!
I would like to hear more about the top of the ear method of controlling blood pressure. Hate having to take pills every day.
I know you must be joking, Arnie.
there is an acupuncture point on the ear that can help control blood pressure. I use it often and it really helps.
so do you just hold the top of your ear between thumb an fingers and press lightly?
I have long thought that Dr. Rowenna’s answers were too pat and “conformative”. I suspect that Dr. Rowenna is not even a doctor but just a company hack that gives out answers from a list of possible answers provided by drug companies, etc. I also would like to see more information on the top of the ear method and I would like to see a more balanced approach to the answers given herein. I am also curious about what JasonMI thinks arnie is joking about?
Awesome…rubbed the top of my ears for 30 sec..went from 154/94 to 138/89 COOL BEANS!! Thank you!!
IF YOU ARE IN THE THIRD STAGE OF HBP WILL WALKING HURT
I would like to know that too Thomas 🙂
Find a good acupunturist they are worth their weight in gold — and yes you need someone else to answer your questions other than Rowena — those pat answers are terrible!
