Q: I have been eating better and have lost 12 lbs so far. Can losing weight and exercise lower my bp?
A: Life style changes, such as losing weight and eating better, is standard medical advice for controlling blood pressure. Eating right and having a regular exercise program also helps to prevent other medical problems. You are doing the right thing.
You are doing the right thing in my humble opinion. While hypertension can be a multifactorial problem, losing weight, eating better foods, proper supplementation, and many other aspects of good health go into a well-designed, broad effort to lower blood pressure naturally. All the best!
I am taking medicine to maintain my blood pressure for the last two years. Can such prolonged medication create any problem to my health?
I have found a direct correlation between my waist size and my BP. It is amazing what just 2 inches off of my waist will do to BP. I’d like to hear from any others having this same experience.

When my blood became high I started a diet and exercise program, lost 30 pounds, and have followed it now for three years. I am in great shape and look better. However, my blood pressure had no change so I
am on two meds and doing OK.
YES DIET WILL PUSH YOUR BP DOWN I WENT ON THE SOUTH BEACH DIES AND LOST 50 LBS MY BP WENT FROM 198/91 TO 114/45
For some people losing weight alone will solve the problem, for others possibly not. I was a tad overweight, lost some weight and it had no effect on my BP.
Exercise should defintiely help everyone. The more vigorous the aerobic exercise the better. Long term, you should see your heart rate drop as you become more fit and this should also translate to a proportional decrease in resting BP. Be careful with strength training. Heavy weight lifting not receommended for those with HBP. Some light strength training should be of benefit though.
I went cold turkey off my meds afetr exercising and changing my diet and guess what? My BP didn’t go back up again. It can be done and don’t let these egotistical doctors scare you in to being a slave for meds. Diet and exercise is the best medicing and it doesn’t have any side effects either.
