Q: I have told by numerous doctors for the last 30 years that I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. I am a 56 yr old male that had a total right knee replacement in 2008. My question is; I was hurt on a parachute jump while in the army in 1976, and hurt my knee to a point to have surgery. Can a bad accident like I had bring on the attacks since I’ve had them since 1977?
A: Anxiety can be a symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder. You did not supply any details about your parachute jump but it may be related. I suggest you discuss the accident with your doctor. To learn more about post-traumatic stress disorder go to: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/post-traumatic-stress-disorder/DS00246/DSECTION=symptoms
The link about post-tramatic stress does not work. I would also like to know what he is currently taking for his panic attacks and how the attacks are affecting his BP.

Please let me know what this Lithim is. I am very curious. I HAVE AN INNNER ear migraine that effects the nervous system. i look forward to your information.
They are both the same thing. When I first went to the doctor they blsacialy tried to figure out what was wrong with me just by asking me what happened, what I thought about the experience. My doctor saw that I was nervous and was asking me about tourette’s, but it’s just their job to think about all the different conditions they have on the books and diagnose you. If you have anxiety the only thing they are going to tell you is that you have anxiety. If your really shy or amazingly quiet they might tell you that you have social anxiety just be hones so they don’t screw up and misdiagnose because they might prescribe something that will make you worse.
I have panic attacks, too. My blood pressure is normal when I am not having a panic attack, but when I have one my BP goes up very high. The doc put me on BP meds, so when I feel normal my BP is 106/63 with pulse of 56 and I feel very tired.
I find that taking a natural supplement called Rhodiola helps me a great deal. You can find it at health food stores for around ten bucks.
Having panic attacks is a nightmare. So I feel for anyone who experiences them. It is hell. I hope you can find some kind of relief without having to take drugs. I think therapy with a therapist that specializes in anxiety is the best way to go.
Panic Attacks Anxiety Attacks are the same thing. Unfortunatly I have been having them for 42 years. After many tdocors visits, I have learned to control them most of the time. I was given xanax to take when I think one will come on. I was told it was a fear of something that will happen. It may be going where a large crowd may be or being the center of attention or maybe speaking in public. Could even be a job interview. The pill actually helps. I have not found a way to stop them. Only to try and control them. Hope this helps.
I had an attack of claustrophobia many years ago, and the recurring attacks. This came out of the blue for me, as I never was claustrophobic. I decided to seek the advice of a psychologist and after many talks she suggested that it may have come from a very traumatic experience I had about 10 years earlier. She gave me breathing and learning to cope exercises to do. It took a long time until they really worked, but now I do not have any problems anymore. Claustrophobia has gone. I now can sit through an opera, go to the movies, stand in a queue without any problems.
Suggest you talk to your doctor and also my seek psychological advice.
oops, ignore the typing errors 🙂 all the best.
My hbp seems well controled by my medication. Sometime I eat something that does not agree with me (I dont know what, several dishes in one meal)and after ~ 2 hours I become dizzy and my blood pressure shoot to 170 or more. How can I find out what food does this?
I also have this panic issue. When it comes, my bp shoots up and am like confused. The therapy I use is to think of something that makes me happy. I think of the lovely and funny things my husband said or did. It ends up making me feel good and calms my nerves.
