Q: Is hot yoga safe to do with high blood pressure?
A: People with high blood pressure can safely participate in hot yoga if they pay attention to their body. With any form of exercise you need to know your limits. This is especially true with exercise done in a hot room. The heat of the room adds an extra burden to your heart. Blood pressure can go up higher than it would with just exercise. To be safe, you need to pay careful attention to your body. Stop if start feeling light headed, short of breath, or nauseous.

The correct term is ‘Hath Yoga’ and not hot yoga. It has nothing to do with heat of feeling hot. Hath Yoga is specialised and advanced form of yoga which Bikram preaches. It should help in lowering BP but scepticals can consult experts before practising this form of yoga.
Actually it is hot yoga. It’s yoga done in a heated room of about 95-102 degrees. I had the same question as the original poster because I too have high blood pressure and wondered if it was safe. I know that Hath yoga is safe to do and may even be good for helping to lower BP.
