Q: Does high blood pressure cause cramping or tightness in the legs?
A: Usually high blood pressure does not cause symptoms. People develop symptoms because of the damage done to their body as a result of having uncontrolled blood pressure over a period of time. The lack of symptoms is why high blood pressure is called the “silent killer”. There are many medical causes of leg cramps. Some drugs used to treat blood pressure can cause leg cramps. You should see your doctor.

cramps are caused by the drug leaving no magnesium in your system. take some and no more cramps
Do you drink enough water? Lack of magnesium and dehydration can also cause leg cramps. I agree, if it is bothering you and you are on medication, you ought to see a doctor – and take all medication, prescribed or ‘natural’ with you.
I too had serious leg cramps in the right leg for about a year….nothing my doctor or I did worked…even taking calcium supplements and coming off dairy products assuming it was a athlechorosis, sending me to do a special ultra sound which cost me an arm and a leg and as the doctor placed the ultrasound on my thigh going all the way down to my leg,we both heard regular normal movement of blood through the veins/arteries.
This affected my regular walking exercises as after the 2nd or 3rd lap I had to get off the track due to pain or muscle contractions. One day after being fed up of so much leg pain when walking for any protracted period, I did more research and noted that potassium aids with the function of muscles…..so despite my recent hypertension test confirming potassium level in the normal range, I got potassium supplements and that worked like a dream…..now it is back to business as usual. Sometimes we can’t rely solely on doctors, we need to also do our own research and collaborate with our doctors.
I too had severe leg cramping for almost 2 years until I read The PH Miracle book and found a useful remedy to try. I put some baking soda into my water and began to hydrate myself and after I tried this no more cramps, plus I felt better hydrated and energized than with just water alone, my lips were now moist and not dry.
Bananas, water mellon. Great sources of potassium.
I think as we get older things get out of whack .. Even Flintstone vitamins can balance a problem with too much potassium because it has calcium. We are a funny balance of stuff as we age.
Beer is a good thing..
It says so on the can.
