Q: Why can’t you eat beans if you are hypoglycemic?
A: Beans are good, not bad, for low blood sugar. Beans are rich in fiber so it takes the body longer to digest them. As a result, glucose levels do not rapidly increase. Blood glucose levels stay more constant so both low and high blood sugar levels are less likely to occur. Some people recommend avoiding beans if you are intolerant to carbohydrates.
