Q: Can you feel when your pressure is high? I can feel it. Is that normal? My numbers have been high for the last two weeks. I feel really tired.
A: High blood pressure usually does not cause symptoms until you are getting into trouble. You need to make an appointment with your doctor. You do not want to wait until you have a heart attack or stroke.

Many people can feel the ill effects of high blood pressure, even though it is commonly referred to as the “silent killer”. The symptoms can be dizziness, headache, sore neck, fatigue…..on and on. Do you have a home blood pressure monitor? If so, you might try taking your blood pressure, either with a MAM machine, or averaging via the Mayo Clinic protocol for a couple of weeks to see what your blood pressure is “on average”. If it is consistently high, try a doctor who will help you with natural control methods. All the best!
I agree with the above writer. I have been diagnosed with borderline high blood pressure since 1994 which rose due to high stress, long working hours which lead to a lack of sleep and high pressure. I had dizziness for weeks despite taking my meds…and this almost resulted in a mini stoke in 2007. So if you know your body, you can tell when your bp is high given the symptoms given above, then you know it is time to find a doctor FAST!!! I was eventually placed on tranquilizers for about 3 months and had to remove the stressful factors in my life. Overall it took about 18 months to get back to “normal” and “borderline” bp…which is where I am now. Lots of exercising daily, watching calories and what you eat help substantially.
Is this Dr. Rowena real? It always seems that the replys are more accurate then hers ever are. I also agree that you know when you bp is rising, high bp does give you an inkling that something is not right/
Please someone tell this womans credentials, and what hospital she works out of?
I totally agree with the two responses. You can tell when you bp is raised. I generally feel tired. It is not true that you can’t tell. I guess the doctor needs to do more survey if she has no personal experiences of her own before she gives answers .
I ride mybike on the streets almost every day. I also walk when I can. My BP was always high, then I had to have my gall bladder out, changed MD lost 22 lbs and now off all of my 4BP meds. It was down to 93/50 and now it is holding steady at 120/60 and I feel good. Should the MD put my back on one of those BP meds. Thanks Ruth
” It always seems that the replys are more accurate then hers ever are.”
And you’re gauging ‘accuracy’ exactly….how?
yes if your bp is high it gives signs. Mine has been up for about two wks now and am not finding it easy at all. I cant concentrate on somethig for long,am easily tired and sometimes dizzy.Even calls on d phones irritate me.
At what time of day should BP medication be taken, during breakfast, at lunch time or with the last meal of the day. My blood pressure is always highest when I take it before breakfast. It will be about 150 by 10 o’clock it is down to 130 by afternoon it can drop to 110
In all the scholarly articles I’ve read on hypertension I have yet to find one where the author (always a physician)states that high blood pressure has symptoms that can be “felt” except the bad side effects; heart disease, kidney disease, etc. I had no idea I had elevated blood pressure (140/80)until I visited my physician. I felt fine. And I feel the same now that my blood pressure is because of treatment (118/70)
I know right to the second when my blood pressure rises. I will get the heart palpitations, dizziness, tiredness, headache and the sore neck. When my blood pressure drops, the symptoms disappear. The symptoms usually occur in the morning when I first wake up and are gone by evening. This was occurring like clockwork for years. My doctor increased my BP medication to 2 pills a day instead of just one, but I developed heart palpitations that were so bad, I thought I would drop dead. I stopped the meds completely and the palpitations were gone within 24 hours. The best remedy I have found to bring it down is to go on a 3-5 day juice fast. The last time I did that was back in early November when I came down with the flu. After three days of nothing but broth, my blood pressure dropped to 118/76. It still goes up at certain times of the day, but not as high as before. I am currently off my medication.
