(ToYourHealth.com) — Sounds pretty simple, right? Except in a society overwhelmed by processed foods loaded with added sugar, keeping your sugar (or blood pressure) in check can be a major challenge.
But let’s leave the topic of limiting sugar consumption from all sources for another day, and instead focus on sugar from a single source: sugar-sweetened beverages. According to a study published in the June 2010 issue of Circulation (a journal of the American Heart Association), a reduction in sugar-sweetened beverage consumption of one serving per day reduced systolic blood pressure in adults by 1.8 mg Hg and diastolic blood pressure by 1.1 mg Hg over 18 months. (If your blood pressure is 120-75, for example, your systolic blood pressure is 120 and your diastolic blood pressure is 75.) Diet beverage consumption and caffeine intake did not appear to be associated with blood pressure.
I am trying Banacar for High Blood pressure. Is anyone else experiencing swollen hands, face, feet with it?
Not swollen hands or feet, but even after I have quit taking it I still have pain in my right foot, this makes walking uncomfortable!
A reduction of 1 or 2 mmHg is not measurable because of the measurement variability, and is meaningless even if it was measurable.
A more definitive study, a lot more definitive, where blood sugar is controlled and measured, is needed.
@ Flo Britt. You must see your doctor immediately. You may have oedema which may be caused by the medication and may be more common than the patient information leaflet suggests. The drugs are tested during clinical trials which these days are shorter term than they ought to be due to patent expiration and the consequential availability of generic drugs.
I was sick the entire time I took Benicar – swelling face etc – my eyesight started to become bad too – not sure what is happening with Tekturna that I’m on now but from what I read in Vanity Fair about how these drugs are tested and where – China-Russia – and how no one is watching in the US – I wonder what will happen next – also – giving drugs to babies for blood pressure is absurd – thanks
