Q: I take 50 mg of zinc daily. Is it OK, or, I’m taking zinc in excess? Does it cause zinc toxicity, when taken in excess?
A: You are taking too much zinc. No more than 40 mg a day is recommended. Too much zinc can be harmful. For example, taking too much zinc can increase the risk of getting prostate cancer. To learn more about zinc go to this article on the National Library of Medicine site.

This is about the last doctor on the planet that I would listen to regarding supplements, since she doesn’t believe in taking them. Somebody researched an answer for her.
I am not sure what else you are taking with the zinc, or why you are taking the zinc. I would be seeing a naturopathic physician for a balanced approach to healthy supplements.
All the best!!
The term naturopathy has different definitions to different people. Be aware that much that goes by the term naturopathy is frequently considered to be pseudoscience.
Thanks very much for your answer! My brother has ben operate for prostate cancer and he take since 2 years, calcium 500 Mg +vitamine D3, is it good ro dangerous? Thanks very much for one answer.
I am a medical oncologist/hematologist. Excess Zinc can lead to pancytopenia and a leukemia like Sideroblatic Anemia. It can contribute to a neuropathy. Ive SEEN it and it is frightening. It took weeks for my otherwise healthy 26 year old male patient to recover. Only a fool believes that supplements can only lead to improved health.
So we should trash multiple vitamins and live on the typical American diet of junk food and sodas? That would be more healthy??
I have added Hibiscus capsules ( a supplement ) to my blood pressure meds. The addition of Hibiscus has allowed me to cut my meds in half in dosage and take them every 6 hours instead of every 4. Hibiscus for lowering BP has been well documented in controlled studies and written about in the Amer. J of Nutrition and other referred medical journals. Google it and you will see the references. To out and out bad mouth supplements is not good and plays into the profit making pharmaceutical companies that are ripping us off.
Hibiscus tea was first prescribed for constipation. A few years ago I begin hearing it was good for High blood pressure. For me when I drank three cups daily the side effect was diarrhea. It didn’t lower my blood pressure. I haven’t had any experience with the captules but like anything use with causions because long term studies have not been done. On Zinc: 50 Mg is way to much except for the first few weeks. It will deplete copper so you need to take extra copper. If you have a good diet you can get all the zinc you need from your diet however a supplement of 20 mg daily shouldn’t hurt. Remember on natural supplements a 120 pound woman wouldn’t need as much as a 220 pound man. Use a little common sence when using natural supplements.
Studies on Hibiscus for lowering bp are as long term as most of the Big Phama drugs that are on the market. Check out the controlled studies on the web. Big Parma has their hand in our pockets and will bad mouth any supplement they cannot patent and sell to us at huge profits.
I have not had any constipation. Being able to lower the dosage of the RX bp drugs, I am not dizzy or sleepy from the side effects.
Guess it works for constipation if you got diarrhea from drinking Hibiscus tea. what did you expect

I TAKE CENTRIMS AND IT HAS ZINK WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT. IS IT TOO MUCH ZINK. I TAKE B12- D-3 CENTRIM
I do take ZMA supplementation everyday before going to bed. Its said to induce better sleep, and increase testosterone. Most supplementation has about 30mg of Zinc. but the chances are if you are also taking a miltivitamin, which also has Zinc, you might be exceeding your daily dose. 🙂 Something to watch out for..
