Q: My blood pressure is usually 140/70. But when I am anxious, it can rise to 170-180/85. How often does an anxiety-produced high blood pressure have to occur to be considered a problem requiring medication?
A: Even when you are anxious, your blood pressure should stay within the normal range then drop to a lower level when the anxiety has passed. Your blood pressure is at a range where treatment should be considered. You should talk to your doctor about treatment options. You may be able to get in good control with life style modifications. The Resperate would be a non-drug option.
NO.
I am very with nerve for people very enerving us, i have 17/9, I take calcifix ( calcium 500 Mg with vitamine D3), can to be continuate without danger this medication?
Thanks very much for an anwer.
Have variable BP readings and doctor removed one BP med and said I might be dehydrated. Problem has gotten slightly better.
Should I see another doctor and what kind?
sounds normal to me, try some deep breathing when you are anxious and purchase some anxiety reducing herbal formulas at the health food store. If necessary safer to take an anxiety med during those times if a med is needed vs living on a bp med when most of the time you won’t need it.
I had anxiety induced high BP two years ago, as high as 170 systolic…diastolic stays low. I lost some weight, cut back on salt and processed food and started using Resperate for 15 minutes a day, 7 days a week. I now average 118/64. It goes up to about 150 when I go to the doctor, but I no longer worry about that. The MOST surprising benefit from Resperate is that my anxiety (I had Generalized Anxiety Disorder)is now on what I would consider to be a normal level…even when things in my life are going haywire! Even if I didn’t have to watch my BP, I would use this machine for the anti-anxiety results. IT WORKS!
as a very long term patient of axetiy I feel I can safely answer this question. Most medications for depression can cause anxiety. Zoloft does not. Go back to your doctor and ask them to change you to clonazepam 1mg taken at bedtime. 30 tablets of xanax .5mg that is a point 5mg. taken only for emergencies. for sever panick attacks. you should not need more than 5 per month. have them triple check that the depression med does’t cause panik attacks. You can also do this yourself at webmd. You can print this off and take to your doc if you like.I have had panick attacks since I was 5 years old. at the age of 37 I think they finially started treating me with xanax. only. I was not happy as it made me tired. And xanax can add to depression. at 39 I found a doctor that put me on the clonazapin and no longer needed the xanax except for emergencies. like if i had to have a shot or got bit by a dog. something sereious. at the age of 43 I can now live a fairly drug free life , and normal one. i can go out in public and take care of my children. They say not all drugs work for all people , but I really think that helping you with your anxiety is going to be a great step. You would never know today that 6 years ago I would end up on the ground trying to take a walk because I was so scared to stand up that I would fall over. I passed out in my car and couldn’t go into the school to get my daughter. 3 weeks ago I broke my toe. would have been a crisis all those years ago. Now I just keep going. swearing a little.really hope this helps and starts you on a new life too.
I agree with Linda Miller above. Well said.
I don’t see how bp should stay at a normal range during an anxious time. It only stands to reason that your bp goes up when you are experiencing a stressful event, and doesn’t seem reasonable that bp would go down below a “normal” range, after the event has passed. If a person is an anxious person (or has GAD , or some other condition), finding ways to manage stress and anxiety is definitely helpful. Sometimes an anti anxiety medication can also help. the Resperate device definitely causes you to relax, and when you do that, obviously your bp will reduce. I have also found the device to reduce anxiety because it forces you to take a break and focus on your breathing and away from your anxious thoughts! It is definitely worth a try, but you do have to use it to see results.
Another not good answer, batting 500 here today Doc. gotta sell that resperate gadget that is soooooooo over priced though.
I gave up on Resperate because I had so much trouble following their rhythms. I had trouble holding that much air and knowing how long I had to prepare for next time. I think it would be more productive to just listen to Beethoven or other classical music to help calm and entrain brain and heart cycles. Bio-feedback would be more expensive but also more likely to be successful.
I will be trying classical music since I recently found and sorted my tapes. My intuition tells me Merlins’ Magic a Reiki music tape for Massage Therapists would also be very effective since it is very soothing music and I will not be prepared to spend money on bio-feedback for a while.
