Q: I have been taking Diovan 80 for two years. I have tolerated it well with the exception of ringing in my ears. I now am having a nervous feeling and have rapid pounding in my ears. This happened when I was on topryl xl. Is it possible to not tolerate meds after a few years? I am also on thyroid medication. Levothyroxin 75 which was changed recently to Levothyroxine. Any suggestions? My doctor does not want to change meds but I do.
A: Talk to your doctor. You can develop reactions to a medication at any time. Usually reactions occur when you first start taking a drug. You have been taking the Diovan for two years but just recently changed your thyroid medication. It is more likely your new symptoms are related to your thyroid medication. Some people are sensitive to different brands of the same type of thyroid medication.

takin these medicines for the last 3-4 years.

Something most people, including physicians, seem to not be aware of is that a good percentage of the population cannot metabolize Toprol, which is metoprolol. Metoprolol, along with a long list of other medications, is metabolized (cleared) by CYP2D6, an enzyme in the liver. I discovered this the hard way when my heart’s electrical conduction system went haywire because I built up a toxic overdose through time. People need to know their medications.
All of the medicines mentioned here are toxic to the human body and have varying degrees of negative side effects. You can find them simply by googling “negative side effects of ______” for the drug in question.

Fresh is always better, but bottled beet juice is okay too. It just might not have a many nutrients as fresh.
There is increasing feedback re slow onset side effects of all these BP drugs. I was in bad shape early this year (after being on BP drugs for 3 years), and after never having bad cholesterol or blood sugar numbers–voila! They were creeping up. But diet and exercise were still the same (good). So was hearing murmurs of “put you on XX extra drug.”
So got off the BP meds, doing fine there, and side effects are gone!

BTW, I have fibromyalgia and everytime I sneak in some tylenol for a day, I get higher BP readings the next day.
Aspirin only pain med I can take without negative effect on BP. A bit frustrating–excedrin gives me best pain relief.
