Q: I take Diavon 320 mg once a day. I have been on it for about 4 months. Since I started taking this medication my scalp has become very tender, itchy and my hair is getting thin. I had beautiful long hair before I started taking this. My Dr. said he CAN’T give me anything else. No other explanation. I can’t stand how my scalp feels. It’s driving me crazy. I have dropped my dose to half a tablet a day to see if this helps, I have lost about 12 LB since I started on the med. through diet and exercise. I’m also a type two diabetic, diet controlled only. What will happen to me if I go off this medication all together?
A: Hair loss and an itchy scalp are not acceptable side effects. There are many medicines to treat high blood pressure. Your doctor may feel this is the best medicine for you but you are not tolerating it. If you tell your doctor that you are planning to stop the drug because of side effects, I am sure an alternative will be found. For a list of drugs used to treat high blood pressure to ask your doctor about go to this page on Heart.org.
You also might want to consider using the RESPeRATE. It has been proven to lower blood pressure without side effects.
If RESPERATE is an alternative to helping with lowering blood pressure why has it not been approved to purchase thru our insurance plans?
well maybe just that the FDA cannot make money off resperate!
It needs less discipline to pop a pill than making time to sit down and use Resperate. In most cases PILLS definitely DO WORK. Respearate MAY work or may help to some extent as an additional treatment and as a relaxation technique. My travel insurance company, for instance, (not in the USA) still accepts people with blood pressure of up to 165/95, which makes me wonder why doctors want to hammer it down to 110/70 at just about any cost. If an insurance organization feels blood pressure of up to 165/95 is still acceptable to them than it seems to me that they regard a person with such a high blood pressure still as relatively low risk to insure, not that I would want such a high blood pressure, and fortunately mine isn’t that high.
I’m also perplexed about some interpretations about what constitutes high risk or not. You say you’re not from the USA – what country are you from?
Your doctor is crazy and lazy. Best bet is to find another doctor. I had to fire four doctors before I got one that would take time to work with me and my medication .I complained to the four doctors about the terrible side effects of a Beta-Blocked. Side effects included insomia, severe deppression, diarrhea. The four doctors put me on more drugs for insomia and depression which caused more side effects including worse depression with suicidal thoughts, For the diarrhea they sugested I do a colonoscopy. After 18 months of suffering and almost comiting suicide I had to see a psychiatrist and found a good doctor that helped me get off half the drugs they had me on including the Beta-blocker. I am in the prosess of writing a book titled “What some Hardin County Doctors Did to Me”. Fire your doctor!
