(Castanet.net) — High blood pressure (hypertension) is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular incidents in Canada. High blood pressure usually takes many years or decades to develop and has many serious long-term consequences. Fortunately, blood pressure can be normalized with lifestyle modifications and natural therapies. Unfortunately, far too many people are placed on blood pressure medication before all the other routes are explored. While it is extremely important to take a comprehensive examination of the causes of a person’s hypertension this article focuses on the use of detoxification as one component of a more comprehensive approach for hypertension.
The Basics of Blood Pressure
Blood pressure is determined by 4 things:
- How much fluid is in the cardiovascular system – the more fluid in the system the higher the pressure. The basis of diuretic medication and many botanicals is to reduce fluid volume and thus decrease blood pressure.
- The size and elasticity of the blood vessels – the more rigid and tight the blood vessels are the higher the blood pressure. Medications like ACE inhibitors and supplements like magnesium increase the size and elasticity of blood vessels to decrease blood pressure.
- How hard the heart is pumping – the harder the heart pumps the higher the pressure. Medications like calcium-channel blockers decrease the force of the heart and thus reduce pressure. This often leads to a host of other side effects and other health issues.
- Resistance in the cardiovascular system – the more resistance there is in the vascular system the higher the pressure needs to be to deliver nutrients to the tissues and cells. Detoxification is one of the most important ways to decrease resistance in the cardiovascular system.
Interesting article…my question is the definiton of detoxificaton. Does it totally relate to alcohol use or does it mean purifying the system of a all impurities?
Medications like calcium-channel blockers decrease the force of the heart and thus reduce pressure. This often leads to a host of other side effects and other health issues.
Can this statement be elaborated on? What are calcium-channel blockers and what side effects do they pose?
Yes, I’m interested in what is meant by “detoxification”. I’m of the mind-set that every little bit helps but I need to know what to do in this case. Please advise.
Kind of a lame article. All the talk about Detoxification yet no clear definition, actually no definition at all. The author makes the fatal assumption that we know what he’s thinking.
Yes, no medical advice or medical knowlege is ever explained in layman’s terms, guess the medical folks don’t really want us to know what to do on our own!
How can one detoxify safely sitting in the house?
And just what does one need to do to detoxify, there seems to be no definition in this article!
used UltrClear Detox program (5 week program) which lowered my BP to Normal. Once going back on a regular diet it went back up again. Do every 6 months and it keeps it close to normal without medication. Also the Rice Diet works well.
“Fortunately, blood pressure can be normalized with lifestyle modifications and natural therapies”
I belive they are “push” the resperiate here since it is sponsored here.
As for the detox, I’m not sure where they are going with that and it would only be responsible of the person doing the article to explain what they are speaking of as well as what they are not speaking about doing.
I’m just saying……….
They just want you to open the email & buy Resparate. So they pretend they are going to educate you & all they Plan to do is sell you some hightpriced gadget
This article is worthless top to bottom. Moreover, the portion about detoxification is grade school level nonsense. M.D.
what is detoxification?
It is basically cleansing the system, like the liver, kidney and the colon, I am currently on total body detox to cleanse my body of toxin. these cleansers can be purchased at health food store. I am on a 7 days one makes you go a little frequent as the toxin gets eliminated. there is the liver detox, the kidney detox or the total body detox that cleanse the liver, kidney and the colon. They are basically herbal cleansers. hope this helps
My thoughts exactly. Splane yourself Lucy!
Please name some food items containing Sodium and Megnasium that helps to reduce/normalize Blood Pressure.
To be fair, lately I noticed more articles than in the past speaking favorably on methods to reduce BP using natural ways such as weight loss, good diet, exercise and relaxation techniques as opposed to medicines being the only alternative.
Being a little bit cynical I quite often say the worst thing about having HBP is having to take all those horrible drugs, the side effects can rob the patient of a lot of life enjoyment and pleasure, mental fog, apathy, low libido, pains and aches, lack of energy and so on, I know because I am speaking from experience, especially after having to take a cocktail of several of them at the same time, as my blood pressure would not come down the doctors kept adding a new drug and or increasing the dosage, either way is awful. That is why the compliance rate is so poor.
At the height of taking all of those medications I went to through some real bad experiences, I had to be strong, most doctors have no idea.
In another direction for instance, the medical establishment repeats as gospel that calcium is essential to keep a good BP, I noticed when taking a lot of calcium as in calcium rich foods and supplements I felt good and strong initially but then (as in a few days) I could feel a very strong heartbeat and active mind, in one of those sessions I happened to be at the doctors office with very HBP, I told him I have noticed that pattern, he dismissed me as having a rich imagination, calcium is good for a good BP he told me, here, add this beta blocker! At the moment it didn’t occur to me to ask him why then calcium channel blockers or why the CCB’s labels advice not to take extra calcium. Calcium is the gas pedal and magnesium is the brake pedal, balance, but one needs both just like both pedals in the car.
Now I take a natural calcium channel blocker, is a lot healthier and feel better, is called magnesium. If anybody after reading this decides to jump into it at full force do your research, too much of a good thing is bad too.
I learned too for instance that copper if too much of it is ingested it can speed the mind as effectively as amphetamines with its consequent anxiety, racy mind, HBP, racy heart, all the way to mental disturbances, etc., because it is essential for the manufacture of adrenaline norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, etc. On the other hand a deficiency impairs the immune system, causes depression and sluggish mind, and copper is vital to the manufacture of connective tissue like tendons, veins and arteries, aorta and capillaries (in conjunction with vitamin C) this is important because good elasticity of connective tissue makes for elastic and healthy veins which is essential to low BP and offers protection against aneurisms and aortic rupture (very common) it also makes for strong joints and strong disks in the spine, copper has to be in balance with zinc, too much vitamin C accelerates the suprarenal glands which is not necessarily a good thing, think of cortisol and belly fat.
Fasting and losing weight brings down BP very effectively, visceral fat is very damaging and a big factor in HBP. Fish oil thins the blood and is safer and better that aspirin or other drugs.
I can see a role for antihypertensive drugs while a reason for a very high BP is investigated but the ultimate goal should be to normalize BP and keep there by natural means.
Lastly, we have to take charge of our own bodies, knowledge is power, there is a lot of crud in the net and then there is a lot of good information, we have to be able to distinguish the good information from the snake oil peddlers and false prophets.
At first I though this was going to be an informative article but found it very lacking in some critical information. AS stated above in many other comments; WHAT do they mean by the title? ie, WHAT kind of detox program are they referring to? I clicked the link to the main article in Natural Health News by Dr. Brent Barlow. This leads to the same information. Then linked that to Okanagan Naturopathic Healthcare Inc. That was supposed to explain more about the detox program but neither detox or blood pressure was ever mentioned. Then I jumped through some additional hoops to actually find the Okanagan Detox program only yo find I must make an appt. and go to Kelowna B.C. clinic to find out. This is highly unlikely since it is a 3000 mile trip. Bottom Line. This is a frustrating unfinished teaser article which doesn’t even lead the reader anywhere except to bad conclusions. I suppose maybe they thought the reader would buy a Resperate out of frustration. This kind of article has just the opposite effect on me. Another possible outcome is for the reader to go and buy an OTC detox program to lower their BP. I suspect that could be very dangerous to say the least. Hopefully the readers will take the limited info. given here to try to quit putting toxins IN and eat healthier. I can see no harm in that. It has been proven that eating healthier and loosing weight can lower BP. Other than that, this article serves NO useful purpose.
Sounds like pure quackery to me
