Best ways to minimize medication or combination of medications.

Q: 3-and-a-half years ago, at age 60, I had a massive hemorrhagic stroke. A neurologist believes the stroke was a secondary effect of an explosion in which I was previously. I am fortunately doing well. My blood tests are good, including no heart or kidney problems. I’m 6’1″, 170#. BP @135/75. Meds: Lininopril 20 MG twice a day; Amlodipine Besylate 5 MG once a day. My blood pressure has steadily come down since the stroke. I am using the same meds as 3-and1/2 years ago, but much lower dosage. Of course, I would ideally prefer to take no meds. What can I do to absolutely minimize the meds necessary? And is there a different med or combination of meds you might recommend?

A: With your history of a hemorrhagic stroke related to an explosion, I assume there is a concern about weakened blood vessels in your head. Maintaining a normal blood pressure is important to prevent putting too much pressure on any other vessels that might have been damaged. As with anyone with high blood pressure, having a healthy lifestyle will go a long way to minimizing the need for drugs. Regular exercise may be more challenging because of the effects of the stroke on your body but this part of a healthy lifestyle should not be ignored. You might want to go back to physical therapy for an updated exercise program based on your current level of function. You also might want to start using the Resperate. It is safe for use by people who have suffered a stroke because it has no side effects.
