Q: I am a 69 year old male with high blood pressure kept to reasonable levels with 100mg Losartan and 25mg Bendroflumethiazide daily. Although Resperate is now available on the UK National Health Service, my NHS doctor will not prescribe as she thinks there is not enough research. My question is, my blood pressure can range from 120/70 to 150/80 throughout the day (I have a monitor) but, when I take a hot bath, my blood pressure is 110/70 or less. Why is this?
A: The heat from the bath causes your blood vessels to relax. This lowers your blood pressure. Tell your doctor that the Resperate has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States. The FDA has a reputation of being far stricter than equivalent agencies in Europe. The makers of Resperate are continually involved in research studies. Additional articles about the health benefits of the Resperate have been published since the device was cleared. Your doctor may want to go online and request the latest.
Hi, Just to say that I have asked my doctor about the resperate machine. I am unable to purchase one and found out it is avaiable on the NHS. I took all the paper work to her and left it for her to read when she had the time. Two weeks later the information was posted back to me saying it was not on the PCT’s interest to supply it as it was too expensive. So as usual, all I think they want to do is ply you with drugs as there is much more money to be made.
ya that’s true..i think
I printed off the info and took them to my Doctor and he read through straight away. He asked me if I would do it and I am still using it and will be going back to have my blood pressure checked ASAP (Lincoln)
Seems that resperate is available only in some PCT areas but not all. Have not been able to obtain this in Burnley either.
I was under the impression hot baths cause the blood pressure to go up. That’s what I’ve been told for many years. When I was in Aqua therapy for lower back and siatica problems, I was not permitted in the pool if the
water there was deemed to hot due to my high blood pressure. If I was permitted in, my blood pressure was taken after I got out of the pool. It was a bit high at times, but most of time, it was in the normal range if not lower.
I have a muscle disease that I refuse to spell or pronounce, and I am on 12/11 mg of steroids every day. My wonderful doctor is striving to take me OFF of them. I started with 60mg daily 3years ago. They of course cause High Blood Pressure. I refuse to take another medication that my primary doctor wants to prescribe. So, I am believing the 3 exercises will do the “trick.” They totally make sense. I have not decided to purchase the resperate yet, hoping I don’t need to. But, it’s a Hot Bath, vs a hot shower for me at night, Thanks
