Q: I have noticed that my blood pressure drops about 15% within 1 hr. after breakfast. Sometimes this drop produces severe weakness (bp 100/50). Is this normal?
A: Any blood pressure change that causes symptoms should be evaluated by your doctor. Since your weakness occurs after eating, another medical problem may be the source of the weakness not your blood pressure. I would wonder about diabetes and food allergies.
I have the same problem and I’ve been tested for diabetes every year. Sometimes my systolic goes down to in the 80’s. My doctor says I don’t have diabetes. My last reading was 99. Are you older? Some older persons have post-prandial hypotension, which is a condition where the BP lowers after meals, especially meals which contain sugar or carbohydrate.
