(by Linda) — I’ve been living with high blood pressure for five years after a dentist almost killed me with an over dose of epinephrine.. I refused to take drugs,no beta blockers or any other drug for me, for i react badly to any drug and their side side effects. The thing that has worked for me the best is deep breathing exercises.
Practice deep breathing through your mouth, hold it for ten seconds, then release through your mouth. Repeat until you feel your heart rate go down. Also avoid stressful situations and pray, for it is scientifically proven that prayer reduces blood pressure. May the Lord richly bless your life and keep you safe and healthy!!!
Thank you, Linda, for confirming that another of the natural therapies for hypertension works for you! We will devote a post to relaxation techniques, one of which is breathing, and there are several methods of breathing that can help!
Hopefully you might find additional natural therapies that can help as well!
All the best!
I just tried the deep breathing approach, but I held my breath for considerably less than ten seconds, as it didn’t seem very practical. About five, I would estimate. Anyway, I was astonished. I was reading around (my bp seems to fluctuate a lot minute to minute)140/86 before. I got readings after about five minutes. 117/77 , 110/ 74, 114/ 78, 111/ 68, 120/80.
Linda: the same thing happened to me 4 years ago. Undergoing serious dental work, the dentist shot me up with epinephrine (knowing I had high blood pressure)and I had a heart attack in the chair. I am still on beta blockers and looking for natural alternatives, due to all the side effects and limitations I have with this medication. I have used breathing exercises for my anxiety and it really does work! It would be a blessing to elminate blood pressure medication someday!
Yes Linda, your experience struck a chord with me. As a dancer I learned how to breathe properly, using the diaphragm. If you breathe in through your nose, visualising your belly filling with air, this pulls your diaphragm down. Then expel the air slowly from your mouth and you will feel your diaphragm rise. The longer the “in” and “out” breaths can become, the more effective they are.
I like the prayer bit. I will add praying to my deep breathing exercises. I recently bought the resperate and hope to achieve a lower blood pressure reading soonest.
Prayer always changes things. Try it.
CERTAINLY!! DEEP BREATHING LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE!! iF YOU PRACTICE CONSTANTLY MOST ESPECIALLY ONCE YOU NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE THIS HYPERTENSION KIND OF DESEASE, AND HAVE NOT STARTED ANY KIND OF HB MEDICATION THEN I AM QUEIT SURE DEEP BREATHING ALONE HELPS A LOT AND MORE HELP IF YOU BELIEVE WHAT YOU BELIEVED…I MEAN PRAYERS IS A KIND OF POSITIVE THINKING. WHEREIN NOTHINGS SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE IF YOU HAVE THE WILL TO SURVIVE..
I am prescribed two hypertension drugs and I am in prayer about alternative methods for healing. I realize that I hold my breath quite a bit and Resperate is ideal for me.
The deep breathing exercise is great and really help to relief tension stress ans nervousnes. thank you for the tip.Ps. the prayer also help, is great when you combine spirituality with nature is a powerfull combination to stay healthy ans at peace. God Bless.
Thanks for the new method of taking deep breaths. I ve always known that taking deep breaths when one is stressed reduces the stress level as it has a calming effect on the body. Also the prayer aspect, anytime I find it difficult to sleep, I start saying my rosary as a Catholic I will fall into a deep sleep. So I give Kudos to the write-up
When I have no access to my resperate, I use a form of breathing that has been clinically researched here in the UK to help with anxiety and panic attacks. Its called 7/11 breathing and you simply breath in for the count of 7 and out for the count of 11 – so a bit like resperate with a shorter in breath and a longer out breath. This was the combination and length of in and out breaths that came out of clinical research with people rigged up to monitoring equipment. I find it really helpful and have passed it on to others.
hi morning d.c we are stilling waiting for part 2 of your beta blocker kudos dear thks alot
In the hosp 5 times in 4 yrs because of hbp meds… I take yoge… of course it’s only been 6 months.. My teacher says breath thru your nose fill your belly with air then let it out slowly.. It works… and also I found out I am my own worst enemy when it comes to B.P. the Drs had me scared so much.. I think about it to much ,drives up my pressure… try to forget it …
Barbara, you are so right. I have had two episodes of HBP which lasted over 3-4 months and both were at a time in which I was stretched through work, very tired, had my BP checked in the Drs office where little support was given, or questions asked about what was happening in my life at that time, and I was pressured to go on HBP medication. Hence, I started to worry about HBP and it became a vicious circle. Now I try to think about it as little as possible, and if I do then I know I need to take get a grip on my mind via breathing, relaxation, stress reduction and vitamins and herbs. Acupuncture is also really helpful.
I almost frustrated my life thinking of HBP, noting that the more you think about it, the higher it becomes. The HBP itself came as result of frightening advise. As a christian, I have discovered that the thought of a problem kills faster than the problem itself. God can do wonders only if you believe and when you commit your situation to God,s hand and trust Him whole heartedly.
Take natural drugs, follow DC and monitor your BP and pray. It is well with you.
