Q: My blood pressure is 147/70. I’ve heard that grapefruit juice can be used to lower it. I currently take 5mg of Crestor, is this bad?
A: Grapefruit juice is known to interfere with the body’s ability to process statin drugs. This causes higher levels of the drug in the blood stream then wanted. Crestor is a statin. The interference is not thought to be the problem with Crestor as it is with other drugs in this class. To be on the safe side, it would be best to separate by hours when you drink grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit and when you take your Crestor.
