Q: What is important to know when considering to wean off of high blood pressure medication?
A: You should not try to stop your blood pressure medicine without first talking to your doctor. Stopping some medications can cause blood pressure to shoot up to dangerously high levels. Keep in mind that medicines do not cure high blood pressure. You may be able to get your blood pressure back down to normal with just appropriate lifestyle changes but you still carry the diagnosis. To help prevent heart disease, periodically measure your blood pressure to make sure it is staying in control even if you are able to be successfully weaned from drugs.
What is the relationship between eating eggs and bp?
If I eat two boiled eggs in the morning my blood rises…
Hi Robert,

It might be helpful it the “good doctor” actually gave you some of the guidelines for actually weaning of of toxic blood pressure drugs. I believe that is what you wanted to know.
Doctor Sherry Rogers in her book “The High Blood Pressure Hoax”, gives excellent guidelines for weaning off the toxic drugs. This must be done very slowly and methodically over a long period of time and includes other regimens. Check it out. It is what I used to successfully wean off the drugs that were making my life miserable.
Good luck!
I weaned myself off the high blood pressure drug Metopolol and Antenol. I took my own pressure until it was down to an acceptable level, showed it to my doc, who did not even look at it and prescribed me more medication. When I insisted that my blood pressure was in the 120 range he jerked the prescription out of my hand and said he was the doctor. I take it when I feel the need for it and I am doing fine. I found out that blood pressure does not stay the same throughout the day, it rises and falls. Drink lots of water seems to help.
BP fluctuates throughout the day for everyone. A good rule of thumb I use is to make sure it fluctuates in the normal range, say between 105/60-130/70 in my case. If it spikes high then this is a problem that requires attention. I keep a log of all reading and tabulate an average. This number is your “baseline” blood pressure.
I weaned myself off medication because all the ones that were tried on me made me really sick and the doctor did not take any notice or just suggested to try another medication. I was really depressed and life became unbearable. I just felt I could not live any longer with daily headaches, confusion, dizziness, pain in my face, chronic fatigue, palpitations, etc. I felt I was a daily danger to other drivers and I needed to drive for work.
BUT:
I would not recommend to wean yourself off medication without consulting a doctor, or another doctor if the one you have does not agree.
As Admin said; blood-pressure can spike to dangerous levels and this can be life-threatening. Certain medications are much worse than other in this respect.
Changing to a plant-based diet may help, but seriously, if your BP is high and/or you have other health-problems, do not try this yourself! You could risk your life. A plant-based diet has helped me, and my BP is currently around 138/78, not ideal, but my (new) doctor is ok with not prescribing medications at this stage and I just have to hope that it stays that way.
Also, anyone who weans him/herself off medication without medical advice/support has to take 100% responsibility. 100%. No blaming doctors, authors of books, or other people if something goes wrong. It is a very difficult decision and you really have to be very sure that you want to go down this path because it could have unexpected effects.
Only wean off meds under the supervision of an alternative or naturopathic/holistic physician. Don’t expect to get any support from your traditional primary care doctor. They get very hostile and want you on pharmaceuticals and will not treat you if you pursue alternative approaches. Once you have been through the process you’ll have a pretty good handle on how to keep your BP stabile with lifestyle methods.
It’s important to note that if you remove the cause of the high BP, the blood pressure should normalize. Medications treat the symptom but do NOTHING to remove the cause. After almost 2 years I found out through numerous tests that my adrenals were the root cause. My alternative doctor and I corrected the imbalance in the adrenals and my BP normalized beautifully. Something no other doctor could figure out.
Ray, what did your Doc Prescribe? I am spiking so high and my anxiety is off the map. Have had panic attacks and blood pressure spikes for years.
