(UPI.com) — Supplementing diet with whey-based protein may help reduce high blood pressure, a U.S. researcher says.
Nutritional biochemist Susan Fluegel of Washington State University in Spokane says daily doses of commonly available whey brought a more than 6-point reduction in the average blood pressure of men and women with elevated systolic and diastolic blood pressures. Whey is a by-product of cheese-making.
“One of the things I like about this is it is low-cost,” Fluegel says in a statement. “Not only that, whey protein has not been shown to be harmful in any way.”
The study, published in International Dairy Journal, finds not everyone drinking the whey-supplemented drink has changes in blood pressure.
The supplement did not lower the blood pressure of subjects who did not have elevated pressure to begin with. That’s good, says Fluegel, since low blood pressure can also be a problem.

ALL forms of dairy and dairy products are harmful (period). Arthritis, heart disease, cancer, and the list goes on and on.
WHO paid for this study?
Totally agree with Carl Smelko.
If it is not suitable for grown cows to drink or eat, it is definietely not suitable for human consumption (period).
Marmotte and Smelko are both adamant that all cow products are “harmful/not suitable for human consumption (period)”. That is wishful thinking – with little data to back it up. Science is not on your side on this one.
Marmotte and Smelko are God’s gift to nutritional science? I think not. We have enough so-called experts running around without the sense to put one foot in front of another.
cow products are harmful!
I’m not sure the study is a suprise….protein period is good for blood sugar levels and blood pressure, it will stabilize your body.
Why not do the same study with rice protein, is it because the dairy people paid for the study, BINGO.
Idont agree here as far as i know even our fore fathers would drink milk before bed-time and with morning Break-fast.they were much healther than us now,so it does not harm to have it.
A variety is always best for total nutrition. It is important to control serving size AND quality of product. Red meat is not the same, chicken is not the same and so is the case for whey. I have bought from Beverly International for well over 20 years and have found this protein to have the best manufacturing for quality and purity. I mix 50% whey, 25% Casein and 25% Soy in bananas, blueberries and strawberries to make smoothies. Hormone Free Chicken, Turkey, Wild Salmon, Tuna and Organic Eggs are also top choice proteins as well as nuts and legumes.
manju,
might you think the diff is the hormones and antibotics that we now add to our animals we eat, also what about gmo.
