Q: I am a 57 year old male. My doctor recently put me on Exforge 10mg*/160 mg for my high blood pressure. This medication has blurred my vision an really effecting my vision in other ways. What is going on here? I see my doctor in a week. What do I sacrifice my pressure or my vision? I hate this blurred vision. What should I do?
A: Blurred vision is a known side effect of your medication. Other names for Exforge are Amlodipine and Valsartan. You should notify your doctor that you are having this unacceptable side effect. There are other calcium channel blockers and other classes of blood pressure lowering drugs to try without this side effect. In addition, there is the Resperate. It is a medical device proven to lower blood pressure. Unlike pills, it has no side effects.

I am curious as to what your “high blood pressure” readings are. There are natural, non-toxic approaches to treating high blood pressure that might help you eliminate or reduce your dosage of hypertension drugs. The nice thing about natural alternatives is that negative side effects are avoided.
Exforge is actually a combination of a calcium channel blocker, amlodipine (norvask), and an angiotensin II receptor blocker, valsartin (diovan). Here are some links for you regarding the negative side effects of these two drugs as reported by actual patients rather than the manufacturers of the drugs.

Like many, you are suffering from the negative side effects of the drugs. One of the reasons that I found ways to control my high blood pressure naturally was that I just couldn’t stand the negative effects of the three hypertension drugs I was on. Natural alternatives have been helpful to many.
I also take a calcium channel blocker, plus was taking a Beta Blocker and 2 other drugs. The doctors had me over medicated. With help I have been able to come off all of the drugs except calcium Channel blockers and I will,in time get off it. These drugs side effects had really messed me up. Including, ringing in the ears, poor vission, insomia, depression, digestive problemsWent back to my doctor who had over medicated me and he wanted to put me on more drugs for the side effects. I fired 4 doctors before I found one that would lisen to me and help me get off the drugs.Once you start taking a calcium Channel blocker it is hard to quit and the longer you take it the harder it is to quit. Doctors should try Lisinpril first and a directic. A Calcium Channel Blocker should only be used when the other drugs don’t work. They have a way of attaching into your blood cells and it is dangerous to stop taking them. You have to very slowly cut back under the suppervision of a GOOD doctor. Good luck
Jerry, I am not sure that the troubles you have had with calcium channel blockers are generally true. I requested that my doctor switch me to a calcium channel blocker when I read about a large study showing them to be more effective than other blood pressure reducers. No trouble at all since then for me, no side effects. Good luck with your efforts to keep the BP down.
I have been on bp drugs for approx 4 years. I try all the time to get off of them atenolol 50mg ramipril 5mg and hctz 25mg 1/2 daily. I do not exercise as often as I should but I try to eat healthy wholewheat etc. I am not taking hctz and ramipril every other day and my blood pressure seems ok. Can you help me I have read your article but some of the things are not here in Guyana pomgranate and melon with celery and parsley I will try anything else would be helpful I have some of the side effects mentioned and it takes the life out of you
