Q: Does coconut water help reduce high blood pressure?
A: A small and short study published in the West Indian Medical journal a few years ago found that drinking coconut water helped lower blood pressure as seen on this page at the National Center for Biotechnology Information page Coconut water is readily found in food markets as many people like it as a sports drink. Coconut water contains many nutrients and was used as a substitute for plasma during the World War II.
Thank you so much for the information. My blood presure is about 130/ 80 so I will try the coconut water and see if i can get it to 120/ 70. thank you again. god Bless.
I think the key here is that Coconut water is high in Potassium which is a BP friendly mineral. It can also be high is sugar too, so go easy on it. My doctor told me to be especially careful with sugar for BP control. I usually do a half and half mixture of coconut water/water.
Yes, I read that coconut water is high in potassium, but not in sugar as any fruits we know. I was a farm boy in the Philippines and I believe I know a little about this wonderful farm product. I used to take lots of fresh young coconut water almost straight from the tree until my college days. Its meat is excellent too.
Coconut water, that is, pure coconut water is a fantastic kidney and bladder cleanser.
I prefer to drink the juice from fresh coconut that you can buy from the Oriental Market. This should be better to avoid high sugar content if you would drink the juice from a can.
everything that’s made of nature could be very beneficial… so no question about coconut water
Thanks so much for the information about coconut. Will be drinking it every day from now onwards. you know somehow nature has a way of protecting itself. Once more thanks a lot.
Years ago a doctor told us(my friend and I) that coconut water with lime juice is the best BP medication. He told us confidentially that he does not give relatives and family members pharmaceuticals and we should steer clear of it. The coconut water in most cans have sugar added so I suggest seeking out the “no sugar added” ones or the ones straight from the tree
This sounds wonderful! There are so many beverage alternatives to drinking soda and here is yet another!! My husband and I have been off soda of any kind except for plain sparkling water, for years and now it looks very unappetizing to us. The lime would be a nice enhancement to the coconut water too! I’m definitely going to try this; along with the coconut water/mauby combination.
In what quantity and at what frequency should coconut water be drunk to manage blood pressure?
I have high blood pressure. Since I found out the goodness of coconut water I have been drinking it regularly
What if you are a diabetic, my sister in law is. Can you still drink coconut water for blood preasure without interfering with diabetes. Or is there something natural you can do for that too…
I had a heart attack/open heart surgery is it okey that I drink no=sugar coconut water.
AS SODIUM IS AN IMPORTANT CAUSE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.SO IF IT IS REPLACED WITH POTASSIUM THAN IT IS BENEFICIAL FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.COCONUT WATER IS RICH IN POTASSIUM AND IN THIS WAY IT CONTROLS THE HIGH BP
Is absolutely true that celery controls hp?
Yes, celery together with spinach control HP. I use either of the two or mixture and it does help me. Just give it a try.
i will try coconut water i love it.
Celery, spinach, potatoes, coconut water–what they all have in common is high levels of potassium. Research shows that among peoples who diets contribute 4.5-5.0 grams of potassium per day, there are very low levels of cardiovascular disease. In the journal Archives of Internal Medicine, a 2010 study found that consuming 4,700 mg of potassium a day can significantly improve blood pressure as well as reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Getting 4.7 grams of potassium is harder than you may think, most people only get half the recommended amount. My blood pressure dropped from 140/90 to 115/70 when I started consuming 4.5-5.0 grams of potassium per day. In addition to eating lots of green vegetables, I drink coconut water to get to the daily target level of potassium. My blood pressure dropped just with increasing potassium. I did not need to reduce sodium. I think it is easier to make sure you get the recommended amount of potassium than it is to try to control sodium intake. You can check the potassium content of food at this website: http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods/list. If you keep track of your potassium intake, you will be surprised how far you are from the recommended amount. If you take potassium sparing blood pressure medication, make sure you talk to your doctor to see if your potassium levels need to be monitored before drastically increasing your dietary potassium.
Thank you for the insight and knowledge about the benefits of coconut water
