Q: Can I lower my blood pressure with diet?
A: Changing to a healthy diet and obtaining a normal weight will help lower you blood pressure. One of the most recognized programs to do this is the DASH Diet. To read more about this go to this section of the Mayo Clinic site.
In addition to the lowering blood pressure benefits, the DASH Diet was most recently voted by US News as the best overall diet plan.
Dr. Thomas Moore who chaired the original clinical trial that resulted in the development of the DASH diet has written an excellent book that explains the history of the DASH research as well the diet itself and provides clear and achievable tips on improving health and incorporating the diet into daily life.

Studies have been done to show that eating a daily helping (3 stalks) of raw celery and 28 grams of Whey protein will all help to bring down the BP.
I also use my RESPeRATE at least once a day for 20 minutes. It’s the best purchase I ever made!
Dr. Mark Hyman’s (see his site) “Detox Patient Guide” diet along with UltraClear and an antioxidant supplement brought my 200/100 into normal range within 5 weeks. I felt like a little kid again. Allergies, Sinusitus and feet pain disappeared. This lasted several months as long as I maintained the dietary restrictions with some additional menu that fitted with the allowable. Commitment to this type of diet will maintain the BP level otherwise it starts to rise again. Also in those 5 weeks my weight went from 178 to 152
I have reduced my blood pressure by 20 points both systolic and diastolic by changing my diet to add an extra 2000mg of potassium per day. I do this by drinking coconut water 650mg of potassium in 11 oz. for two meals per day and by replacing regular salt with Morton Lite salt (290mg sodium, 350mg potassium per serving) for cooking and table salt. My goal was to reach the recommended intake of 4700mg of potassium per day. I still continue to resparate and my BP runs about 115/75. My brother adopted this same dietary approach when his doctor told him he need to start BP meds and he achieved the same result. At his last appointment his BP was 110/70 which his doctor said was amazing and fabulous.
