Q: I am 68 and have been on medication for over 40 years for hypertension. I don’t smoke or drink. I don’t use smoke and sugar. I eat mostly vegetables. I don’t consume caffeine. I take Benzapril, Bumentanide, Eplerenone, Felodipine, Hydralazine, Potassium & Pravastatin. I also take a few other drugs to compensate for the side effects from this medicine. I would like to know if there is anything I can do to eleminate some or all of this medicine? Preferably something natural.
A: What could be more natural than breathing? Talk to your doctor about the Resperate. This device has been clinically proven to lower blood pressure. It is possible with regular use you may be able to eliminate or lower the dose of your blood pressure medicine.

I think I would see another doctor and take ALL medication, including the ones not listed in your letter to the first visit and discuss whether some may be eliminated or reduced, and also have a thorough medical check-up with full blood count and kidney function test. But you might try “Resperate” as well as suggested by Dr Rowena. My mum took the ‘brown paper bag approach’ and the (young and new) doctor gradually managed to reduced her medication. It was basically “let’s see what we can take away first.” He even managed to get her off insulin injections and she was able to control her diabetes with diet alone. Initially this was really tough but she was very determined and discipined. The reason she had to see “that young doctor” was because she did outlive the two old ones. She was very reluctant at first but very grateful that he managed her condition so well and give her at least some of her life back and, above all, reduce the cocktail of drugs she was taking.
But, you MUST see a doctor if you want to try to recuce the medication. Don’t do it yourself.
Niacinamide has been shown to lower bp. A friend of mine takes 3 – 4 500mg Niacinamide tabs per day and has lowered his bp to a normal rate. He also takes Apple Cider Vinegar. Worth a try. Breathing right also can help.
How does apple cider vinegar help lower your BP and how do you take it?
ACV is an old-time folk remedy that many people believe reduces blood pressure. It is taken in liquid form (diluted) and it tastes like very ripe apple cider. I doubt that there are any clinical studies to verify the claims, however.
Try a clove of garlic every morning and drink Jamaican hibiscus (boil it) it eliminates high blood pressure. An old Egyptian natural prescription.
You say drink Jamaican hibiscus. Please be more specific for those of us who are not familiar with this. Is it a tea? Is it a soft drink? A liquor? Where do we get it?
Thanks
You can add dried Hibiscus herb (bought locally at health food store in bulk or mountainroseherbs.com is where I get all my herbs) I make a tea out of the following mix using 1Tablespoon per cup and drink 3 cups a day:
1oz Hawthorn Berry
1oz Hawthorn Leaf
1/2 oz Yarrow
1/2 oz Linden
1/2 oz Hibiscus
1/2 oz Cramp Bark
Can also buy similar blend at http://www.smileherb.com/product_info.php?products_id=3719&product_name=Hi%20Blood%20Pressure%20Tea
but its cheaper to buy the herbs in bulk and mix them together yourself and use it.
Interesting! My daughter’s Jamaican boyfriend introduced me to hibiscus tea, which is called Sorrel in Jamaica. I now regularly buy Sorrel & Ginger Tea from Dalgety’s online Jamaican dept. (dalgety.net) Ginger is very good for arthritis and sorrel is full of Vitamin C so it’s good for general health too. And tastes great. I have a hawthorn tree growing on my garden wall, so I’ll add a few leaves from that too. If you live in a big city you can get Jamaican foods from special shops. I live out on the LLyn Peninsula so have to pay £5 postage and get lots of packets at once from Dalgety. If anyone near me wants some, just let me know!
