(PharmPro.com.com) — The FDA has approved Edarbi tablets (azilsartan medoxomil) to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults.
Data from clinical studies showed Edarbi to be more effective in lowering 24-hour blood pressure compared with two other FDA-approved hypertension drugs, Diovan (valsartan) and Benicar (olmesartan).
“High blood pressure is often called the ‘silent killer’ because it usually has no symptoms until it causes damage to the body,” said Norman Stockbridge, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Division of Cardiovascular and Renal Drug Products in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “High blood pressure remains inadequately controlled in many people diagnosed with the condition, so having a variety of treatment options is important.”
Edarbi will be available in 80 milligram and 40 mg doses, with the recommended dose set at 80 mg once daily. The 40 mg dose will be available for patients who are treated with high-dose diuretics taken to reduce salt in the body.
Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps. If blood pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage the body in many ways. Nearly 1 in 3 adults in the United States has high blood pressure, which increases the risks of stroke, heart failure, heart attack, kidney failure, and death.
This is just another ARB with all the harmful side effects!
I won’t try any new drug the FDA approves until its been out a few years. The FDA has killed to many people with their “approved drugs”. Every time U turn the TV on you see an add by some attorney for people that have been damaged by some drug the FDA approved.
another dose of poison for someone – especially unborn babies!
hi i have tried all the high bloodpressure pills and the side effects are intolleable and also the high cholesterol pills that gives me muscle pain. the worst is depression and anxiety so if you have a new pill Edarbi that does not do that it would be wonderfull. regards irmelin
Jerry Cooke and everyone else are correct! The sad truth is that you’re better off buying a “hyperpertension drug” from a street corner than the Federal death Association. Profit, profit, profit is THE main reason that people die from these drugs. What a shame…
One blood pressure pills called Lisinopril is derived from snake venom. It was prescribed two months ago but once I found out about this I refused to take it.
Jay, I took Lisinopril and coughed for two months. Then I started having trouble swallowing. Realized every bite I took had to be “washed down” with water. Dr. didn’t know what was wrong. Then I read an article about how that blood pressure pill and others in the same “family” caused some people’s throats to swell. It took a while after I stopped the lisinopril for my throat to get better. I wonder how many other people are coughing their heads off because of that drug.
Only in few words. The target of health must be as a life style ie eat the healthiest food and not the tasty one, then do regular reaching strenuous exercises and then U won’t go to any doctor or take any medicine. I guarantee that. That is what I follow daily however with highly selected food and very tough exercies. Haven’t seen a doctor for the last 15 years
Thanks & Regards
Were you able to reduce your BP this way without medication or eliminate medication?
i think it’s not a better option to choose new drugs daily for problems like bp.
What’s in Maxcide? I know the sideffects are dry cough and chest pain.
I wonder if all the folk submitting emails review movies w/o viewing them. This produce, edarbi, was just released to the US market March 11, 2011. I began using my prescription on Monday March 14. I have been taking benicar. The product is produced in Deerfield, Illinois by a Japanese owned company, not the Federal Government. In a control test group of 4,000 it was found to be far superior in treating high BP than Benicar. My BP has gone down 20 points in one week. I also do resperate, exercise and a below 1000mg/day sodium diet.
I just began Edarbi 3 weeks ago after trying nearly every other BP medication. I have extremely high bp due to a blood clotting disorder and not because I do not exercise or eat an unhealthy diet. Edarbi has been the first bp medication to keep my bp within a normal range without unpleasant side effects. I will continue to use it as my bp stay escalated at stroke levels on a daily basis.
Oh my lord. A fast heart rate like this with a low BP reading would scare the heck out of me as I wear a heart rate monitor when I exercise. I’ve tried so many meds and I don’t feel well on any of them. This is so depressing.
Edarbi is working for me pretty well. Not sure if faster heart beat is a side effect….so need feedback from you folks.
Started taking last month. Edarbi has done an excellent job of lowering my blood pressure (I had high diastolic reading) But am still closely monitoring blood pressure multiple times daily as we seek correct dosage. Down to 20 mg per day, still can get too low readings (95/56) causing heart to race at 115 bpm, especially if consumed alcohol, causing feeling of weakness.
Oh, great yet another toxic poison that increases heart rate. All of these medications are terrible as others have eluded to, they do nothing to increase mortality or decrease heart attack or stroke risk.
