Q: I am taking maintenance medicines for hypertension particularly amlodepine 10mg and Losartan 50 mg. I was advised to take these medicines (the 2) once a day after breakfast. However, another doctor told me that taking these 2 medicines at the same time might make my blood pressure too low. Instead, she advised me to take losartan 50 mg in the morning and amlodepine 10 in the evening. What is your opinion?
A: Many people forget to take their medicine. Once a day dosing is the easiest to remember. I am sure your doctor recommended taking your medicine in the morning to keep it simple. If you were not having problems, continue to take them together.
I wouldn’t recommend taking amlodipine in the evening, especially not 10mg. Personal experience of this can tell you that I suffered from chronic insomnia for several years due to taking it in the evening.
I take amlodipine Before I go to bed 5 mg around 9.00 to 10.00 PM . I first took it in the mornings and I could not sleep at night . I decieded to reverse it and take it at night I sleep great .
losartan has a half life of approx. 12 hours, and amlodipine has a half life of approx. 19 hours. i fail to see an advantage to taking one in the evening and the other in morning
That is a good motive to take one in the morning and another in the evening. If the active life is less than 24 hours is better to take medicines in differents times.
I am preecribed by doctor to take amlodopine (s numlo 2.5 mgm) every morning . I have tried morning and noon. The former is better. This is because,I understand, that when the weather warms up, the BP comes down, naturally in tne noon and afternoons.
Is my perception correct?
Last year I took 5mg Amlodipine in the evening so it wouldn’t bother me. When I took it in the afternoon, I had headaches and dizziness that became unbearable.
I’ve been prescribed Amlodipine (10mg) 2xs/day along with HCTZ.
I don’t have dizziness/light headedness or insomnia. I’ve never taken them at exact times and often times forget to take them 1sr thing in the morning or in the evening. However, at the time that I remember to take it I will adjust the time of the second dose. I also incorporate Resperate as a safer therapy. I am still believing God for favorable results ….. Healing ( normal levels)!
I stop taking my medication altogether & now sleep with out being the chronic insomniac I was!
Ive been taking lisinopril 10 MG for four months, My blood pressure was normal lately so they lower it to 5Mg. Now im scared that if B.P. is normal and i take a B.P. pill its going to go to low? Ive been monitoring it and it is reading low 88-96 top number 48-67 bottom number.
I got dizzy at night sleeping on my back, they said it was high B.P. take 10 mg, 3 months later same dizzy while sleeping on back, they said it was wax in ear, 6 weeks after that, i got dizzy while sleeping for the 3rd time, they said their not concerned have to lower med dose to 5MG.
Any insight on this whole thing?, im getting scared to live life as i used to.
I take Lisinopril (20 mg) in the morning right after breakfast. Your BP is highest in the morning so that seems it would be the best time to take your most potent BP med. Then, in the afternoon (5 p.m) I take 25mg of HCTZ which gets me through the night until the next day. I do suffer from insomnia so maybe I am doing something wrong. Any corrections to my dosing schedule would be much appreciated! I also take atenolol (50 mg) in the morning and Lovastatin(20mg) during the day
Thank you all! Jim
