Q: I have both high and low blood pressure every day. A previous doctor had me on BP medicine. My present doctor does not and says we’ll monitor it. What are the dangers of having both high and low BP? I also have fibromyalgia.
A: Blood pressure is not constant. The level varies depending upon your activity level. Blood pressure that is 140/90 or greater should be treated. Blood pressure that is so low symptoms occur, such as dizziness or fainting, also needs treatment. Your current doctor likely feels your blood pressure is in between these levels and thus just needs to be watched. The medicines you take for your fibromyalgia may be contributing to your blood pressure swings. Take you blood pressure readings with you on your next visit to your doctor.
