Q: How long does it take for Lisinopril to work? My doctor said that there is NO WAY that it could bring my blood pressure down from seriously elevated (for well over a month) to a wonderful 120/81 in just 2 doses. So… I’m curious what your thoughts are. I do know that I feel amazing right now and am so thankful the terrifying symptoms I have been dealing with are gone….FINALLY! Any feedback you can give will me greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙂
A: According to drug information from Gold Standard Inc. 2011, Lisinopril starts working within an hour of taking it by mouth. The peak effect occurs at 6 hours after taking the pill. You clearly are responding well to the drug. Hopefully it will continue to work for you.
THANK YOU FOR KNOWLEGE OF TIME EFFECT OF LISINOPRIL
I was on Lisinopril for months. I coughed everyday that I was on it. The doctor said that the cough was comming from acid reflux/sinuses. I took myself off, went back to the doctor and he put me on Norvasc. I have not one that kind of coughing again.
Please publish, this may help someone else
My dr just put me on it and said the coughing is actually a side effect of the med so your dr doesn’t know enough about it if he said its something else.
very interesting because I have been on Karvia 300mg and seldom see my BP go below 145/80
how do you get Lisinopril ,sounds great jb
You see a medical professional AKA Doctor! 😉
All pharmacutical BP meds require a prescription and likely monthly visits until stabilized. One nice thing about Lisinopril/Zestril is it’s a 24 hour small pill, some minor side effects usually will fade within 6-8 weeks. Also, many BP patients need only this 1 med and a 30 day supply of 20mg costs $3 without using insurance… (walMart price)
I have been on this drug for 25+ years and it still works for me and no side effects
I take blood pressure medication for Hypertension. May I also take this product a long with Blood Pressure Medication? Is this a machine or medication?
Hypertension IS High Blood Pressure! Lisinopril 20mg can be taken safely with many other BP meds I also take Tenormin/Atenolol 20mg because my pulse, at rest was 95-110 which is very bad! Slowing an abnormal high pulse also helps lower your BP. Also Lasix/Furosemide (a water pill) as needed for water retention – swelling of the ankles & feet. I elevated the foot of my 10 inches which helps a lot, but if you get swelling you need to dump excess water. This also lowers BP.
Note: Lisinopril is a BP med, most BP patients use a machine with a lcd display available at Walmart and other discount pharmacies for about $25 and up. I think my machine is more reliable than some humans who use the hand pump/cuff (spygmometer) and a stethoscope, particularly aging medical pros who are starting to lose hearing w/age!
Note2: For Clonidine users: Cloninidine only lasts a couple hours. Even taken twice daily it only covers 4-5 hours! It’s great to “knock down” a high spike till your other meds kick in…
Elevated foot of my BED 10 inches! Oops… Oh, a quick warning about diuretics (water pills): Skip ’em if on a long road trip or 2-3 hours in a dentist chair! Take ’em when you get where you will have bathroom access. It’s nice to have sites like this to compare notes with people but only take meds prescribed for you by your doctor…
One side effect of Lisinopril is an irrating cough that doesn’t improve over time. Suggest switching to Losartin – same results as with Lisinopril, but without the cough.
Lisinopril 10 mg a day did not lower my blood pressure either and I have taken it 5 months. My new female Dr. recommenedf hydroclorothiazide, 12.5 mg/day and my blood pressure has been lowered quite a bit during the last week I started taking it. It helps get rid of water in your system she said.
JJ
I was on hydroclorothyiazide for several years until it caused irreversible kidney damage. My Dr. took me off of it. Be cautious. There are natural diuretics that work well and are safer.
20 mg. of Lisinopril for 4 mo. has done anything for me. Actively exercising before and after use. Will probably discontinue use as it doesn’t appear to be effective, for me.
What is lisinpril?
I believe that Lisinipril is made from snake venom. It made me feel terrible and have a dry cough. I felt foggy all the time and started to get gray hair… I felt depressed and really didn’t care about anything. My blood pressure was never really good while taking it either. The best way to lower blood pressure is to lose some weight and do aerobic exercise every day.. That really worked and I felt great. By doing that I brought mine back to my normal 115/70.. With Lisinipril I was too tired to do anything.. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.. (However, there may be some people it works for.) I read a lot of comments on the internet from people after I quit taking it saying that it caused dementia… I don’t know but google it.
My doctor had to up my dosage from 10mg to 20mg. My high blood pressure usually range from 120/80 to 100/69. So it has went down from 140/95 to a current reading of 100 and over to 120.
So it is working for me.
Lisinopril did not work for me, some people say that it works great for them though. I was taken off of it and put on Norvasc.
I started Lisinopril only 5 mg/day and I noticed a difference after 2 doses. My BP is normal now about 120/84. Before it was 140/100. I hope it is going to stay that way.No side effects until now! Only on it for 2 weeks.
I started taking lisinopril since 5days of 2.5mg/a day and my bp went down from 165/115 to 150/100 a day.i have to take 2×2.5mg daily from next week for 5weeks then see the Dr.any side effects if i take 2 a day.
i would like to get some info on AZor 5/20 please anyone knows about that b/p meds
i was on lisinopril it makes me cough atnight
Been on it for about a month. Top number usually lower/Bottom number quite a bit lower. No side effects that I can tell. I’m an avid runner and the lisinopril does not seem to effect/impair my running. Hope that continues. No cough, hope I don’t get it.
I tried Lisonpril 3 different times for a few days and each time I had serious muscle pain in my legs. I cannot understand people that complain about b/p in the 130’s or 140’s. Mine has been in the l50’s and 160’s and I have bad side effects with several meds. I even tried the Resperate.
You cannot understand people who complain about BP in the 130-140’s range? Perhaps you are not feeling what they feel and should relax your opinion a bit. Are you a doctor? The last time I checked, it is ususally the doctor who measures your BP and then decides to start you on BP medication.

My bp was 191/116 has not lowered after 4 days. I’m sore, tired headaches, runny nose, dry cough. Tried lifting I’m a 400 pd bencher and struggled with 225 today. I hate this med
I had similar problems. Weight lifting raised my BP even more, then factor in weight lifting at altitude (Colo. Spgs, CO). I was spiking to 212/110. Was also using Lisinopri, no cough just lightheadedness mostly, sometime dizzy too. It did control my BP though. Kept it steady at 115/65 on 20mg. Side effects were bothersome though.
I started on Lisinopril 10 years ago at age 50 at 5mg. A couple of years later went to 10mg. Now at 60 years old I’m at 40mg. With age my blood pressure gradually increased over the years. Lisinopril has always worked great for me with no side effects. Its a drug that is easy on your heart and kidneys. When my dose was increased it usually kicked in within a day or two.
