Q: I am having work done on my legs for varicose veins. The veins in my foot became inflamed and I had to treat them. The doctor referred me to a clinic that specializes in treating varicose veins. Just some background. Since then my bp has been high. Could there be a connection? My doctor put me on a lose dose of a blood pressure medication to get me through this.
A: Surgical treatment of varicose veins should not cause your blood pressure to go up. You mention your veins are inflamed. Drugs used to treat inflammation can cause an increase in blood pressure. For more information about varicose veins go to this page at MayoClinic.com.
That is VERY interesting about drugs for inflammation causing high BP. I take a lot of natural supplements to decrease general body inflammation. I wonder if the NATURAL supplements would be a potential cause of high BP. Anybody?
I use a natural product for inflammation called Reflexir containing maca root and cat’s claw. Their studies conclude no side effects and except for perhaps a small reduction in diastolic pressure.
