Q: My 86 year old mother has been taking Diovon HCT for about two years to control her blood pressure. For over 9 months she has developed itching and some times burning sensation all over her body. Could it be a side affect of this medicine?
A: Diovan (Valsartan) can cause itching. This is a known side effect. A reaction to a drug can occur at any time although they occur more frequently when a drug is first started. Her itching and burning may be related to a different medical problem. She should discuss this further with her doctor.
Diovan has got to be the most poisonous drug on the market. I don;t know of anyone who has taken it and NOT had side-effects! Simply inet search and you’ll have enough reading material for the next decade. So why does the AMA sheep continue to prescribe it?……
I took Diovan for over 3 years and I stopped sweating, had no saliva , my mouth and throat was sore, then took Lisinipril for 24 months and felt much better but developed a cough. I take Losartan , my lips are caked with acid every mornng I think it makes my acid reflux much worse . Any ideas on that?
I took Diovan for 3 yrs and the longer I took it the more side effects I experienced. I had constant itching, esp. on my forearms. Had stomach cramps that would appear out of the blue for no reason at all, would last for an hr and finally subside. I was on the Diovan HCT, Dr. took the HCT out and still had side effects. I took myself off the drug and once it was out of my system the side effects I was experiencing stopped!!
I have been on Diovan HCT, for almost 12 years, along with other High Blood pressure Medications. I am itching all the time. I used Calalmine lotion, Medicated powder. My Husband uses Rubbing acahol and You name it I pretty muched used or tried it. Most of the medications I am on has this side effects alo. So it is terrible on one hand and good on the other hand. What to do. I want to lower my BP and not use any medications. I want to go back to walking and enjoying the outdoors.
So is there another medication to take to replace this medicztion?
I agree, diovan is full of nasty side effects, that was the first BP I got prescribed, I keep braking out on hives and at the time I had no clue to the link, the doctor didn’t even took me seriously until I end up in the emergency room.
By that time I got me another doctor.
Itching and burning can also be caused by shingles, which I had twice. You generally have a rash but it could be on a part of your body you don’t easily see. It can be large or just a small red mark.
My mother (86) has had high BP for years and medics can’t seem to keep it under control. It fluctuates for not apparent reason. Sometimes it goes through the roof out of the blue. She has tried taking her meds at different times of the day. Sometimes she will be full of energy and feels great and then for no reason feels “wobbly” and “distant”. Any ideas?
