Q: I am hypertensive patient. I take Atenolol pills, Captomax and mylan. I am 49 years old 90kg (198 lbs) weight. Problem is my libido is very low. Also, I don’t feel like talking to my husband anymore. Is it normal or is there something wrong with me?
A: You are hypertensive, not sexually inclined, and appear to be overweight and possibly depressed. Although this may be common, it is not normal. Make a visit to see your doctor. You might have a thyroid problem.
Of course she has a thyroid problem, she’s taking Atenolol. It also reduces libido.
I don’t feel like talking to my husband sometimes either but I don’t think the drug has anything to do with it. 😉
Sounds like the beginning of menopause to me…
It most likely is ALL of the above. First, check out all the drugs you are taking and find out what they are likely to affect, then talk to your doctor about it. Then evaluate your health; how much should you weigh? What do you eat? Do you exercise? then I would recommend asking your doctor to do some blood work and see where your hormones are at, including thyroid. after you have done all of that, you might want to assess your relationship and find out why you are disinterested in your spouse. If it continues, perhaps some counseling might help. You might want to suggest to your spouse that he get his hormones checked too. He might be very low in testosterone which can cause an assortment of problems for men. Good Luck.
i have hypertension, first when i got my hypertensive last of 2008 i started from 140/100 then the dr.gave me
tenormin(atenolol) 25 mg, for 10 days wen my blood preasure gets normal 120/80 after three days then i stop the medication suddenly after a year it jumps to 170/110 now i’m taking codiovan(valsartan)80/12.5 mg.
then i started to have diet eating fresh pineapple for over a year then my blood preassure go down to 115/70
is that good, now i try to cut the medicine into two then i take half only codiovan per day. is that good?
but still my blood preassure maintains 120/80, my Question is shall i continue taking half medicine per day.?
I think your problem might be the Atenolol. I too had simular problems. But I also had a lot of stress that caused me to have to take blood pressure medicine. We tried anti anxiety meds at first, but they did not help my BP just my stress.
So Maybe not talking to your husband is because you feel like he doesn’t hear anyway?
I had been taking the Atenolol for over 5 years. The problem I also had was my skin was dry,my breathing was not always easy, aches and pains I always had were more intense.I talked to my Dr just recently because I told her I was out of balance. She had wanted me to start walking over a year ago. I funtioned and moved all day, but I was really tired. I had my thyroid checked and blood for anemia and Lymes disease.
You know I was taking OTC pain killers almost everyday. Last year my kidney was hurting I had everything checked, but they couldn’t find a reason.
After talking to my Dr about being so tired and my breathing she switched my BP med to Diltiazem. I can’t beleive how much different i feel. I have started my walking. My husband can’t beleive my skin and how much softer it feels ( My heels were dry and now they are not.) My breathing feels normal. I haven’t taken any OTC pain releivers since the change. I am working hard to maybe not have to Take BP med. I always work with my Dr. I too always read about different things to try, Diet, Vitamins,.Right Now I am giving up Wheat. I t is too much in our foods and too much of anything is not Good. Just like Hydrogenated fats and High Fructose Corn syrup. They were first to go. I lost 10 lbs My Husband lost 15. We are both 53. He has good BP and cholestral.Good Luck
Remember to drink 4-6 glasses of water a day; it will lower your Blood Pressure. The liquid of life is so refreshing, the lack of it (water) can make life harder to live; drink water and lower your BP.
Also raw eggplant and pineapple will lower your BP; careful tho eggplant(just a little can do the trick and always consult your doctor about using anything new.
I have had 2 doctors tell me that drinking lots of water is a popular myth. For one thing, more fluid in your body can elevate your BP. That’s one reason why people take diuretics. For another, they told me that drinking too much water – or any fluids – can tax your kidneys. Now, this is contrary to everything I’ve been told about drinking water, so I’m not sure what to believe, at this point. (One doc was a urologist, the other a gastroenterologist. Go figure.)
