Q: I am a spiritual mentor, teaching yoga and meditation. My life style is calm, cool, connected, centered..but my blood pressure is still going up, despite medicines etc. It is normally 150/90 but sometimes 160/100. So tell me what could be the reason? Is it genetic? My mother also has high blood pressure.
A: Unfortunately medicine does not yet know the cause of most high blood pressure. Genetics certainly plays a role. Having relatives with high blood pressure is a risk factor for developing the disease. It is known that lowering stress, regular exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight all help with blood pressure control. I am sure your blood pressure would be worse if you weren’t a spiritual mentor.
yoga perticularly a standard breathing excercise such as “pranayam” twice a dat will go a long way to stabilise the BP.
what a joke this dr is.the cause of high blood pressure is your arterys are narrowed due to plaque
builup.I have a blood pressure reading of 250over110 no pill on the market will get it down.
yep most is generic
Not necessarily just plaque buildup. I have a cholesterol of about 100 yet my BP can spike to 220/110 and the drops to a baseline of 156/100. One of the most overlooked elements is the adrenal gland which regulates BP. They also produce stress hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline which ate powerful vasoconstrictors.
You may wish to search for the underlying or root cause of high blood pressure, such as a restricted artery in the kidneys, termed renal arterial stenosis
What tests are done to find out if you have a restricted artery in kidney? What is done to correct renal arterial stenosis?
Could you please explain what exactly is “Renal arterial stenosis” And how to have this diagnosed. Will appreciate your kind response.

Meditation has been known to help reduce stress and blood pressure for centuries. There are many, many other modalities available today to help with your hypertension. While I won’t repeat all of them here, hopefully, some of my other posts might help you to find some that will be of benefit to you.
All the best!
I have no risk factors and baffle my docs—and trust me, I’ve had every test possible. I meditate, work out daily, practice and teach yoga, don’t smoke, drink alcohol rarely, and am a vegetarian. People repeatedly say I am the healthiest person they know! However, my BP is off the charts unmedicated and I’m on a lot to bring it down.
I figure it is part of my life to experience this and try to surrender to a disease process I can’t consciously control. Humbling.
Namaste!
Honestly i would queation without a doubt your meditation issues….Real peace has only come to me thru a daily relationship with Jesus Christ…the living God…and reading His love letters to us…The Bible…the true instructions to live your life by…What you are missing is a real relationship and will only find peace thru Him…Jesus isnt something you try….it is a commitment to live your life for Him since He gave His life for you …You will find true happiness in…”Giving” and not teking….Watch your blood pressure go down when you become a giver instead of a taker….Im sure this wont get posted but it will do someone good who reads it once,,,because it is the truth
One God, many pathways.
What about salt? I seem to have inherited my father’s salt sensitivity and can use hardly any. No processed foods and follow a vegan diet high in leafy greens.
when modern treatments fail, try herbals
There is a wonderful eastern Indian herbal remedy called Mukta Vati. You can google this and look for Ivey’s brand. It really works and its all natural. Call Ivey’s and ask for Mei. They seem to be very good people.
Don’t wait.

I’m not sure that mentoring (whether spiritual or not), wouldn’t be a stressful occupation, even if it doesn’t ‘feel’ like one….
Did you check your diet? You say you’re a vegan, but do you eat butter? Most vegans do, believing that butter is allowed. How about shoyu, misso and other fermented soy products? Shoyu alone has a lot more salt than one would guess, and should be taken in drops only, if ever.
I am a Tai Chi Chuan instructor, about to be 70, and I was medicated for blood pressure in the last 10 years, with lots of side effects, dizziness, lack of energy, impotence, you name it. But recently I dropped all medicine and switched to garlic. Two or three cloves daily, and my blood pressure is no more an issue. Got my power and joy of living back too. Try garlic.
i tryed that with garlic 10cloves a day i am not obese but i have a bp of 250over110 had it since i was 40 now 63.i have pad it is a buildup of plaque in the arterys tryed all kind of pills so i let nature takes it’s course.you have any idea
“Most” vegans certainly do not eat butter. None believe it’s “allowed”. Very false opinion stated as fact.
Try celery juice two cups a day, q10twice a day, and breathing excercises. Also drink hibiscus tea twice a day
Dr.oz mentioned gastric bypass surgery for persons with uncontrollable high blood pressure.
