Q: I have been exercising and watching my diet and have lost 16 lbs. I take blood pressure meds, but have been having frequent bouts of light headedness and low blood pressure readings (87/54) Should I stop the meds all together?
A: You need to talk to your doctor. It sounds like with the lifestyle changes you have made you no longer need as much medication. Your doctor can advise you on how to safely change your dose. It is not safe to stop certain blood pressure medicines all at once.
87/54 is dangereously too low! Stop all medication right away! Dizzy spels are warning you may get a stroke or even a heart attack. Instead continue exercising and wollowing a good diet [low sugar and saturated fats, high fiber-a lot of vegetables and fruits, fish, chiken, etc.] I would also recomend fish oil and CoQ-10. Duke.
While your BP certainly is very low, get with your doctor before stopping meds on your own. I would heed what Dr. R said, that it is not safe to stop certain blood pressure medicines all at once.
