Q: What are the dangers, if any, of blood pressure that is 88/58 and a pulse that is 63?
A: As long as you feel fine and are able to participate in your regular daily activities, your blood pressure is not a problem. Feeling dizzy or faint are symptoms of blood pressure that is too low. If you are currently on blood pressure drugs, you may want to talk to your doctor about how much medicine you are taking.
What if one is taking acid blockers for acid reflux ?
I think I heard that these affect the blood pressure and or potassium levels in a person prone to have low potassium.
Can we learn anything else about potassium drops and what drugs interfere with the drop. I understand that Mucinex taken for a couple of days may affect a drop in potassium, causing a critical problem ?
What is normal blood pressure
How old are you?
Are your blood pressure and your pulse so low because you are an athlete such as a marathon runner or long distance swimmer? Those may be very good numbers under certain circumstances, and not so good under others.
Are you on medications at all?!?
Do you get dizzy when you get up from your bed or a chair?
It strikes me that the “good doctor” would want to know this information and more before advising you rather than assuming you are on medications and that you have a problem with them.
What many people do not realize is that the diastolic blood pressure perfuses our organs. It is not a good thing if your organs are not well profused.
All the best to you!
To Helen S [and others]- Well anyone taking diuretics should have their blood tested for proper levels of potassium. Their Doctor should be doing this/know this: but as in the case with my 94 yr old Mom’s Cardio Dr. he has/had not been doing this for quite some time [if at all].Potassium is about the most important mineral for the heart !!Also, this is very critical for people in hot and dry climates and adding to that potential problem is lack of proper hydration [which my Mom has..thinks water is the worst liquid on the Planet] . Also, complicating this issue is that and other pharmaceutical drugs[or other irritants] i.e. aspirin ;is they are irritating to the stomach ..therefore creating stomach ulcers….like Mom had and the Gastroenterologist agreed with me on the cause ! Complication the bleeding ulcer issues for older people with alzheimers and /or dementia is the use or start up of pharmaceuticals like Aricept: since the main Warning is for people with bleeding ulcers…which the idiot Docs[ and or my Black Widow sister put Mom on while in the hospital !! If we could only get “allowed” to get away from pharmaceuticals and utilize a more natural, plant based approach..along with proper foods and exercise !
Greatest source of learning for all. Thank you so much for your noble gesture.
