Q: Can being in a cold room and taking your blood pressure result in a noticeable increase compared with a warmer room? I am thinking of the peripheral vasoconstriction vs vasodilatation effect.
A: Blood vessels constrict in response to cold to help maintain body heat. This can increase blood pressure but within the normal range. Likewise, blood vessels dilate when you get hot to help the body get rid of heat. This can lower blood pressure but it should remain normal. If you take your pressure in a super air-conditioned room, it is likely to be slightly higher than in a overly warm room. However, with prolonged exposure to extreme heat or cold, blood pressure may go way out of control in a last effort attempt of the body to preserve function and prevent death.
My blood pressure goes through the roof (my face gets red)when I am a hot room and has done so for many years. I go outside to get fresh cool air to drop my blood poressure.
I live in a house with no central heating, poor insulation drafts and poor quality electric plug in heat to keep from getting too cold. I heat the bathroom to go there when I get too cold in order to read (which I do a lot) and if it is too hot I am very uncomfortable and get red in the face then I turn down the heater and become comroptable in order to read. Please explain why this is so, thanks Blackie
I forgot to add that I am a horsetrainer and work outside mostly and am 64 years old.

Blackie, those are really interesting questions. Best to email the doctor directly, I am not sure they monitor the comments for the purpose of asking questions of the doctor.
WHAT NATURAL/HERBAL remedies have evidence in reducing high blood pressure & can these remedies be enough instead of taking Antihypertensives. Early reply will be appreciated .thanks
SEM: I have been drinking celery juice (combined with carrot and apple for taste) daily using a juicer (there is an article online regarding the benefits of celery juice for reducing BP). Also, I have reduced my coffee/caffeine intake dramatically. I also mix 2 teaspoons of BRAGGs apple cider vinegar in 16 ounces of filtered water and sip it throughout the day. Twice a day I drink hot water with a few slices of lemons. With these diet modifications, I have noticed my BP is reduced and in acceptable ranges. My doctor could not believe the difference in my pressure readings.
Hibiscus tea and magnesium supplements both help modulate BP. But it is crucial that you monitor your BP while taking anything lest you bring it too low or not low enough. Esp. with the magnesium–start with a low dose (to avoid loose stool) and space increases out over the day.
Hello, in what will I find magnesium? is it food, liquid, pill etc??
If the experts say; “However, with prolonged exposure to extreme heat or cold, blood pressure may go way out of control in a last effort attempt of the body to preserve function and prevent death”. People living in Siberia and in the deserts are still alive and may be healthier than us. I wonder why.
Yeah I wonder if they eat the Westeran diet in the “Siberia” lol
I’m 58 years old. Up until one year ago my blood pressure was always 127 over 70. Other than occasional asprin, I do not take any OTC or Perscrption medicine. Last year I went to the ER with chest pain and my blood pressure was 190 over 98. Fortunately they discovered no blockage although they did determine that my Chlorestoral was about 220. They sent me home on lipitor which I did not continue and BP meds.
Since that time my BP has ranged 130-140 over 80-95 if untreated. I’ve tried garlic and it barely affects the BP.
My question is is the high BP a symptom of something else or is it an ailment?
My BP is in the 140-160 sis and 80-90 dia it seems to just be normal for me since i had a masectomy any comments or help appreciated thanks and God bless you
