Q: I am taking BP medicines Natrilix SR, cardiovas 12.5 mg and amlopress L and my BP is not stabilized. For diabetes I am taking diamicron MR 60 and glucomet-1gm twice daily and my blood sugar level is not controlled. My fasting blood sugar is about 200. What do you suggest?
A: It appears that you do not have your diabetes or high blood pressure in control. Make sure you are following all of your doctor’s instructions, including any recommended life style and dietary changes. Also, make a follow-up appointment with your doctor to discuss additional interventions.

Things to consider from a layman’s perspective:
Consultation with a Naturopathic doctor
The Paleo diet
Supplements helpful to hypertension (fish oil, dandelion leaf, parsley, pomegranate, niacin, and others)
Chelation therapy (I have found this especially helpful in improving my circulation).
Regular exercise (5 days per week minimum)
Doctors who keep doing the same things, when they obviously are not working, are not friends of mine. The good doctor’s answer here…..well, if you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say anyting. I have nothing more to say.
Good luck to you, and all the best!!
My blood pressure has not really been controlled for SEVERAL YEARS and my doctor is relunctant to change my meds.
Always do a kidney flush when you use chelation therapy. I didn’t know this and while the chelation eliminated my chest pain I ended up leaking a lot of protein in my urine. All that stuff in your arteries has to move through your kidneys to leave the body. Dandelion root is good for lowering high liver enzymes. Parsley eliminates garlic odor from your body. Niacin helps blood pressure and heals the important Beta cells in the panceas but watch your liver enzymes; it will send them too high if you take too much. I have been trying to follow the diet from The Water Secret and have had good results with improved glucose levels after several months. I took myself off my glucose medication and after going off it for several months I was told to cut it by one pill. Ha! I think I have made quite an improvement with adding a probiotic with bovine neonatal kidney tissue along with intestinal probiotics. I will continue it at least a second month.
Did Admin ever consider that some of the meds prescribed for high blood pressure can cause spikes in her blood sugar levels? I learned this from my pharmacist, only after I asked her if there were any side effects not mentioned in the drugs pamphlet that I should be on the look-out for!
I am convinced that both my parents’ diabetes and high cholesterol was actually caused by the BP medication, or at least the BP meds contributed considerably to the onset. Both were very overweight, but did not have diabetes nor high cholesterol before they started BP meds. Our genetic cholesterol is very low, and yet both ended up with high cholesterol.
I took meds for one year, took the meds as prescribed, and got the same answer as Admin gave; i.e. basically doctors blame the patient. I believe that BP meds can interfere with the best dietary intentions and doctors do not have the time to investigate what is happening.
I don’t have an answer here, except to suggest to see another doctor or a specialist.
I’m on Norvasc and Losartin and have gotten excellent control of my cholesterol by taking 2-4 serings of Psylium Fiber. I much prefer this to taking statins which are much more dangerous. Please see my response to LGreen above (and read his suggesions too which address high blood pressure control).
There are some herbal slepupments that lower blood sugar is not recommended, but instead, unless supervised by a physician. Some of them will lower blood sugar levels quickly and can be dangerous for diabetics. With herbs or other alternative means to lower blood sugar are not recommended because it will be supervised by a qualified doctor.
My BP med, Triamterene W/Hctz (sub for Maxzide) lists high blood sugar as a possible side effect. My blood sugar has never been that high but I also take a lot of vitamins, minerals and eat right. I think D. Carestia is absolutely spot on with her recommendations of trying natural things rather than more medication. And consider another specialist if things don’t improve.
Good luck!
A second opinion could never hurt! Good luck
I had a stroke caused by high blood pressure and four weeks after I started to take the drugs prescribed for this condition I was was found to have Type 2 diabetes. Hmmm!
It helps to keep my BP under control by cutting all sugar from my diet, including the massive amounts of cheap sugar found in processed foods, tinned foods, etc.
I didn’t mean to start this reply but I would like to use this space to add that Vit. C, Vit. D, Magnesium and Gelatin taken at the same time improve bone structure. The Psyllium Fiber and other fiber help improve absorption of nutrients from the colon. Apples help the heart and normalize blood sugar when eaten whole and unpeeled. The Water Secret has a picture of an apple with slices from 4 kinds of apples on the cover; and since I’m cutting expenses I buy 2-3 bags of different colors of apples and eat 4 small apples a day. Each color of fruit or vegetable has its’ own specific additional nutritional benefits from anti-oxidants. I try to include a citrus fruit along with some kind of grape or berry in each smoothie I make. I strongly believe the principles in this book and do my best to follow its advice.
